RoD, Aside from whether it is or isn't good for Rugby, my gripes are as follows. By suddenly bringing in established superstars in year 11 or 12 it undermines the culture of rugby at schools, particularly for the younger boys who think they have a chance 1 day but then start to say "probably...

    CAS Rugby 2023

You have forgotten too many other very good back 3 players that are way ahead. I think we should stop talking about boys until the trials sort it all out.

    CAS Rugby 2023

Please stop with this rubbish, of the 3 you have mentioned 1 doesn't exist, 1 isn't eligible for CAS this year and the other is a real chance but no certainty.

RoD, I just read all your comments on this page and will respond in this 1 comment. Agree re the potential weak preseason issue that may arise because the GPS have gone back into their own little world but still there are plenty of good schools out there to play. Yep the quality of all sides...

Rubbish, go back to school, it isn't even slightly funny!

G'Day RoD, The Waves haven't played an external trial yet, only internal trials. Next week a squad of 35 are off to Japan to play 4 local Japanese schools, and enjoy the experience, very lucky boys! Our 1st home trial is v Newington, then View, Oakhill, Auggies and finally Gregs/Puis. Then the...

I think your choices are really close except for 6 and 12, and the position of some boys here may well change. The Trials will tell. P.S. Don't forget the age groups intensity is a lot less than the Opens games, and there are quite a few boys now who will be playing their 2nd year in the Opens.

Hi Snort, the Trials start April 29. Very much over this banter about what Barker did or didn't do stuff, but I do hope we all don't see a whole new bunch of recruits suddenly turn up, from any school!

    CAS Rugby 2023

Agree, so I have pointed out some obvious omissions but the poster could be from a number of schools, as the Cranbrook suggested team is just stupid.!

    CAS Rugby 2023

Schoolboyfooty (HA!), At this stage I think it's too hard but here are a few obvious names that were in the 1sts last year that aren't on your list, and a few others, who I would expect will be there or thereabouts. 1. Joseph Tangi - Prop 2. Zion Potaiha - 2nd row 3. Asher Te Rata - 2nd row...

Stag, You are correct and whilst some of these names will be in the team, it is not even close to the final team. As usual the trials will play an important role as there are often a few bolters.

Relax RorD, I have previously stated that Barker is a TERRIFIC school, and that will not change. IMO this is about BALANCE, all schools offer these opportunities, but when it becomes wholesale it tips the scale. I would argue that some positions in rugby require more sensitivity and focus, eg...

RorD, As you know I often agree with you on certain topics, re inter association comps etc, but we do disagree on the imports strategy. It's a short term fools strategy. Having outlined, at length, from a Waves point of view having experienced all this before Barker, but not as epidemic, here's...

FormerR, I completely empathize with your comments and the growing discontent with Terrific Barker parents whose sons have suffered from this BS. As a Waves dad, old boy, and my sons are 4th generation, it was very easy to see what was going to happen soon. I said it in recent posts, EXACTLY...

For those unaware, a few years ago Scots had a 1st Basketball team recruited and all the other schools in the GPS refused to play them, no joke, so there was no GPS Basketball comp that year, due to a ridiculous strategy. Let's wait for the Barker parents to eventually get sick and tired of all...

Agree HB, Everyone we knew from prior years was going to Barker for that special game, would have been a capacity crowd. The poor boys from both sides were denied and unfortunately will never get the chance again, BUT there are bigger things in life, which is how we soften the blow.

    CAS Rugby 2023

Agree RR, Having spoken to the same Waves coaches of 2017,2020, and 2021 Waves sides, the view is that the 2021 side would have beaten the 2017 and 2020 side, and all the other great sides mentioned form knox and Barker, the forward pack alone was just so dominant, a once in a generation side.

    CAS Rugby 2023

Have to disagree R or D, In the case of Waverley it has been only in the last 4-5 years that a few imports, not wholesale, have come in, and for all the reasons I mentioned earlier it causes a lot of unease amongst the vast majority of boys and parents who have come through the years. Since...

    CAS Rugby 2023

I suspect Barker has a lot more going for it than just a strong 1stXV rugby program or is it all because of it's rugby program. I think the answer is obvious. Anyway, my point was just to share with you what does happen over time when you OD on imports. P.S. I am also sure many other great...

R or D, Having watched this mini series unfold, here is a view that you might find interesting having been through all this before Barker. Old saying : All that appears Rosie... The HSC rankings are not the best measure of a good school by any means, so quoting rankings is a falsehood, often...
