    Waratahs 2025

I think the author's point was that the incentives to choose league or play overseas are becoming substantially greater by the minute. The lobsters always knew they were in a pot, but now the they're starting to wonder why the water has gone from being pleasant to uncomfortably warm.

did they photoshop Schmidt's head onto a stock photo body for that promo poster?

It's unfortunate but if teams in cities with 2-5 million inhabitants and reign over entire states struggle to self-sustain, I don't know if a second team in any state could.

Definitely have the players but the profitability is where the snags are. Gold Coast is where professional sporting franchises go to die, Sunny Coast is too small, Townsville and Cairns are league country, and if you put it in Brisbane you're cannibalizing your Reds supporters. If Super Rugby...

Easts vs. GPS should be a fun game this weekend. Both more than capable of playing the spoiler against other teams.

September would be far better timing than the current paradigm that feels more like a trial during preseason when most rosters are different from the prior season. Club rugby is simultaneously too big to be put to the side and not big enough because most clubs don't have the resources or...

Like the idea of a loose forward or scrum half as captain regardless of personal qualities. Always near the ref for the full 80 and able to stay in his ear.

Pretty sure I saw a different politician's name advertised on a tent at Brothers. Made me laugh a bit but I can't fault someone for exhausting all avenues for political advertising.

The Regatta not having Stan is interesting considering the amount of traffic they get from Uni and Wests

Looking at the ladder, the discrepancy in +/- between Brothers and the rest of the leading teams is eye opening. +134 for Brothers and the rest of the top 4 are in the +35-40 range.

Happy for the kids that get a great education and career opportunities out of the deal. I'm sure it sets them and their families up far better than the alternative. However I can't shake the feeling that there's something weird about a national level initiative to import teenagers to play for...

In the realm of strategic assistance, what about funneling some of the players from Victoria that need a competition toward Norths? With the unfortunate demise of the Rebels there should be a few more players to go around between Wests and Norths.

Fanatics and Michael Rubin might be good at providing an e-commerce platform, but don't allow them to grab exclusive rights to producing the actual merchandise. They have a track record of anything they touch taking an immediate nose dive in quality and durability.

It makes a big difference in 5G because most other clubs struggle to have experienced depth at those positions and the average 5G player is smaller or less skilled than higher grades. Ends up being pretty simple, forward dominant rugby where size has a disproportionate impact. Yeah not all...

Souths don't struggle for forward and in particular front row depth since they have a surplus of larger gentlemen of a certain demographic at the club. That can win you games in 5G and 6G by itself. Forward talent tends to even out across the competition when you get to 4G.

In terms of population centres that have preexisting clubs; Sunny Coast and Logan seem to be the best. You could also throw in Ipswich, Caboolture, and something toward the Wynnum/Redlands area further down the line. There's a separate discussion to be had about whether amalgamating them into...
