I reckon you're on the money there mate, clubs can do their bit to help out the DA. Maybe Micky Mac could moonlight here on GAGR? Maybe he already does?? This has been a debate for years and years. I don't see what the problem is, don't we want our CRM and DO's involved in our local...

Things are looking a little better tonight than they were earlier in the week, still a number of holes to fill though. Round 2 will be light on. Clubs need to be prepared to have club based folks looking after 3rd Grade, 2nd Grade and Women's. We'll clearly appoint wherever we can though.

The referee fairy has not delivered any additional referees for the competition at this stage. It was good to see active members from SIRRA out and about at the Wagga Junior's Gala Day, geez there were some kids there. There are some handy junior coaches out there who will make decent referees...

Good to see some positive chat there fellas, I agree with Old Fart, let's see what guys like Shoody and Co can do with Reddies. I think having guys like that around the club will help build good culture, I'd like to see them get back to their previous strength soon. Those numbers are certainly...

Good to see some chat out there about the rep program, I'm hearing some good vibes from around the grounds for the competition kick off. It's also encouraging to see good numbers putting their hands up for Coaching and Refereeing Course attendance in Leeton and Wagga. Leeton, Reddies, Griffith...

All good points @Reasoning other than the Sunday matches. The ARU are working on a project to determine payment schemes for Premier Rugby (Sydney/Brisbane/Canberra/Melbourne/Perth), but are yet to come up with a methodology for Community Rugby levels. It becomes very very difficult to mandate...

Payment might be a motivator for some, it might also be a double edged sword. Fee for service is a slippery slope for me. Support and good club culture are much bigger motivators in my eyes.

Yes. Online is the easy part and all members are up to date with online quals "at level". Field testing is the problem - ie a physical assessment by a qualified referee coach is required. For a Level 2 Referee, that's 5x field assessments from a Level 2 Referee Coach in a 15 a side format...

They're all desirables and clearly the ARU, SIRU and SIRRA want high levels of accreditation etc. Maintaining those accreditations isn't easy to do though for coaches or referees.

To the best of my knowledge, SmartRugby is the only mandatory requirement to referee or coach a game of rugby. Potentially Reddies?

All good points gents, all points that the referee's association and board are aware of. Accreditation is a sticking point for all levels of the game in all zones. The ARU have moved to a centralised, self paced model with some boxes to tick as far as referee coaching go (which I think are...

Read through the past (at least) three season's worth of blogs here mate, it's been in the pipeline for years. Numbers have been gradually declining for a range of reasons - family, kids, time, availability etc. It's been a discussion point at the past 4 SIRU AGM's also. Some clubs have a...

Traditionally, the Women's 7's have been 10min halves, with the move to 10 a side, the proposal is 15-20min halves with a 5 player scrum. Adds a whole range of additional points to the game itself. Add in there that there's some discussion about when to play the games, between 3rds and 2nds or...

It's the age old conundrum isn't it... Release the draw without all the club's feedback and then watch the complaints roll in. Wait for the clubs to respond and action as per their wishes, complaints come in from general public not knowing why the draw isn't out. I don't envy the guys from...

Let's see what happens with the season proper, I imagine it's a similar scenario to Thirsty Third's in many regards.

I don't see it as a major issue Paul, probably just a point for those that are capable and interested that there is a pathway available. In terms of playing weekly rugby, if that focus remains on the local competition, great. If the focus is on having a run and a few froffies at Country Week...

I agree here Reasoning, let the clubs tell the Board what they want, it's their comp after all. I like that there is some positive chat around at this stage of the season, it's good to see. I'd rather see players make it on merit anyway, if they aren't up to scratch, they generally move on to...

From memory, the draft draw saw the comp kick off two weeks before Easter. Byes - Easter Long Weekend, June Long Weekend, week after June Long Weekend, before Finals Series plus two others intermittently in there to line up with Junior Gala Days which is when the "City v Country" games are...

Cool your jets folks, clubs are voting on the draw. I think it's a good thing to see the zone putting these ideas out to the clubs and having them organised. Ideally, the 2020 draw should be getting worked on during the season, with a draft draw being forwarded to clubs in preparation for the...
