    Heineken European Cup 2012

This thread needs more Gilroy: My favorite part of it was the clearout by Fez at 00.12 to get quick ball. My heart was in my mouth the whole game. All credit to Munster who never looked out of the contest. Big win that.

    Heineken European Cup 2012

How about Edinburgh eh? That was a good result for shaking up the established order of the competition and a great result for Scottish rugby.

    2012 6 Nations

[Edit: just saw plastic paddy's post] Quelle suprise!

    2012 6 Nations

Too right, the poor bastard hasn't played tighthead for Ulster in years.

    2012 6 Nations

I reckon Andy Robinson could have done worse than to give Richie Vernon a start at blindside for balance in the back row rather than continuing this dual opensides business with John Barclay and Ross Rennie. Not to take anything away from either of them, both excellent players.

    2012 6 Nations

Ross Rennie has got a bright future ahead of him on last weekend's evidence. Fully deserved his official MotM gong.

Ferris now cited for a tackle that was a penalty at the very most ihmo: http://www.planetrugby.com/story/0,25883,16024_7493411,00.html I'm probably overreacting, but the comissioner can literally piss off.

    2012 6 Nations

Well done Wales. They never gave up and I reckon the margin would have been bigger if more of their kicks had gone over. Ireland in that game? BAARRF would be a fitting description. Kearney was magic under the high ball mind you.

    Ireland - 6N Squad

I agree with this. Ian would probably have seen a bit more international action by now were it not for his infamous flakiness in defence (not that that ever stopped ROG, mind). Runs in the family, but then again so does the attacking magic.

    Ireland - 6N Squad

Ireland squad's out for those interested: IRELAND Training Squad (2012 RBS 6 Nations): Rory Best (Banbridge/Ulster) Tommy Bowe (Ospreys) Tom Court (Malone/Ulster) Sean Cronin (St. Mary's College/Leinster) Leo Cullen (Blackrock College/Leinster) Gordon D'Arcy (Lansdowne/Leinster) Keith Earls...

    Rugby - not set pieces

A bit of trivia about the Ulster vs. Leicester game over the weekend. It is the heaviest European defeat that Leicester have ever suffered at 41-7, breaking the prior record, a 33-0 defeat suffered in 2004. Those who doled out the previous hiding? Ulster.

Bernard Lapasset re-elected IRB boss, Oregan Hoskins vice chairman

It's not a problem I have with Lapasset himself, more the way the article is wirtten. The tone of that statement I posted rankles. While he may have presided over those achievements, a lot of other people worked to make them happen too.

Bernard Lapasset re-elected IRB boss, Oregan Hoskins vice chairman

This little gem is from the PR article on the subject: I also heard he presided over Jesus turning water into wine. Seriously though, are any of those due to Lapasset's actions or direct influence as IRB chairman?

    Rugby - not set pieces

Remember that well, made headline news back home at the time. Trev tried to claim sectarian taunts by the fan as a reason for the attack, the European Rugby investigation into the matter found there had not been any such abuse. It turned out that the quality of the bar Trev runs in Toulouse had...

    Rugby - not set pieces

I enjoyed watching this try last Friday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guWy9p0Whuw Thought it might be worth bringing this thread back now the northern hemisphere domestic season is well under way.

    Johnson quits England

Got to feel sorry for Johnno. I wouldn't have wanted to be in his shoes at any point during his tenure. 'Twas the media what done for him.

Shit, how'd we do that? I've bitten my nails clean off.

    New Zealand Super Squads

What's the Kiwi opinion on 'Brand' Haskell joining the Clan? He hasn't been in great form lately and despite any claims of "it's not for the money" a man who recently launched an iPhone app solely for the purpose of shameless self promotion can't come cheaply.

2013: The Lions Tour Look Ahead

I'd argue that World Cups are comercially driven and ultimately shallow exercises, while it is the Lions tours that have meaning and significance. Watching those red jerseys take the field fires the blood like little else.
