Waratahs 2025

Wilson

John Eales (66)
Michael Ala'alatoa has a year left to run on his contract with Clermont, he won't be available until 2027.

Froggy

Alan Cameron (40)
No inside knowledge at all, but just as an observation it appeared to me Lambert was a stronger scrummager.

A mutterer

Chilla Wilson (44)
Walton stepped it up this year. I think I saw him give on field sprays to team mates and we need a harder edge in the team when not playing well enough.

What I wouldn't give to have a captain in 2026 give a kolisi-like spray to someone dropping the ball "do your job or get the fuck off the field for someone who can".

He earnt a contract. In a side that looked clunky he would have a moment or charge it back into the line and he isn't a man mountain. Good guy to keep.

DM was all praise for him at times about toughness in some post match interviews. He's not going to be Tim Horan but guys like this filling the gym and training paddock for young talent coming through and see the effort and care I reckon is what DM talks about.

Agent

Ted Thorn (20)
Joey W sounds a bit like a Hugh Sinclair type character - a quiet achiever, no nonsense, and probably not destined for long term higher honors but someone that everyone in the club looks up to on and off the field.

Also from same article, Tahs tried signing Bernard Foley for next season(36 next year) and he said ’no thanks’, and Will Harrison likely to reject offers to stay in Japan also. Wonder if they tried singing Donaldson back from the Force as well before he re-signed with them last month.

Jack Debreczeni is off-contract..

2 year deal apparently:

tahs have been talking to Foley and Harrison but have missed out on both.
I think this will ultimately be good for Tane.

I was doubtful Foley would ever come back. Shame as it would be good to have a mentor for the younger players similar to how the Reds used JOC (James O'Connor) behind the scenes.

I would love to have seen Will Harrison back as I always rated him and I'm not sure we ever saw his best with his injury. Anyone seen much of him at the Liners? He looks to have bulked up a bit. Playing with and learning off Quade cant be too bad, though I wonder how many good things he'd (Quade) have to say about RA.

Good for him. Nobody in NSW should be that disappointed either.

We have waited and waited for it to click and slandered the bloke for not playing like the ITM Cup form... Will he be better at the Brums? No, but he'll look better in a very settled side then people will call for him to play 10 for the Wallabies and then we'll slam him again. I think he's a bang on steady pro and probably cheaper than Noah so a good pickup for the Brums.

Tahs may have chased and missed some guys but they have Creighton on contract still who is at the same level as Edmed. If you can't land a legitimate upgrade at 10 keep the cash to throw at younger guys in the system for the future if this is the path the Tahs are going down which I hope it is. Personally I'm content to be a middle table side for a couple of seasons if it can bare long term fruit. I only worry that there are still enough germs in the ecosystem to drag it all down half way through and then be left with a patch work squad.

I wonder how many 1 year deals we will see across the Rugby Australia landscape and whether this is the player agents keeping their options open.

Traditionally there is a large exodus to France/Japan after the RWC. A couple of astute player managers could be mindful of that and look to get their blokes into those programs before the big moves start happening.

Doesn't worry me all that much right now. It's about keeping him in the building and I'm sure others like the Force may have thrown longer deals at him that he's said no thanks.

Gives them time to negotiate and come to a deal that is hopefully long term as a pair with Gordon then take over after 2027.
