Reds v Moana Pasifika Rd2 Friday 21 February Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane 7:35pm

Encourage you to watch it again. I can’t screenshot because Stan has anti piracy tech but McReight is nowhere near on laying on the ground. He was being rolled out of the ruck as he did it so if the ref had said hands in the ruck that would have made a bit more sense but you hardly ever see that being pinned since they have started interpreting jackaling as hands directly on the ball.
His knee hits the deck before he sweeps, the second angle they showed had it relatively cleanly. As has been said, it's the sort of thing you get away with a lot of the time, but not when the opposition is hot on attack.

That said, trading 3 for a yellow worked out pretty well there, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Reds defensive strategy going into the game involved risking cards to stop tries, given a bp should've always been the aim.

I hope not! Reds have had too many past problems with refs and building a reputation that did NOT work for them. Les needs to beat that out of them this week.

And next week we have Force and Reds, thank about the YC trend if it continues.

I’ll back us in a game of 7s

I thought the best news out of the game was Lynagh and Delutiis. Lynagh was composed, kicked well and ran enough, banishing some of his issues last year. Delutiis, made some huge hits, got across the ad line and held up a strong Moana scrum three times while qld only had seven forwards on. Qld should have got a penalty at least once from those three as the Moana front row popped.
I believe there is too much news around him at the moment as a kid and he needs to be allowed to just play for a while, but for me he certainly showed more than Nonggorr has.

HMP or Mason for me.
I'd go with HMP. Mason is an unknown at this level and you could say the Reds currently are a good place to learn but it's an important away game.

Anderson would be a step back in play making and attack but a safe option. He's also a chance for a start on the Wing with Ryan getting hooked at one point even though I think you back the kid to come back having learnt from a bake he probably got but Moana looked to get him 1v1 and it was effective at times. I Imagine Cron would love the get Pietsch or Potter 1v1 with the younger lighter body who is still on the upswing in regards to learning in the pro game.

Delutiis looks made for this level at only 21. Incredible player. Probably the rookie I'm most excited by currently. If he and Kailea can keep improving, they can form an impressive quartet of super young props with Bell and Tupou.

He's only played 2 less games (6 v 4) than HMP.

If you're looking to replace Jock, Mason is as like for like as we have in the squad.

Tracking yellow cards is the sort of thing American sports do really well, with their mountain of pro and amateur stat collectors.
Would make discussion around these sort of things so much more interesting. Ideally we would see the stats on every advantage conceded, let alone penalties and yellow cards, but that day seems a long way away.

I'd love to be able to compare how many YCs are for foul play v deliberate offences v repeated offences as an example

Talking about discipline is pretty interesting in cases like the McReight one. That was absolutely conceded on purpose, as part of a team tactic to concede 3 at the end of the half instead of 7.

So is it really a discipline issue?

Fair. I definitely also judging him on his go at 15 for the Aus 20s which overall was pretty average/erratic as he shifted from 10 to 15 which at the time seemed forced as he was with the Rebels and his brother was a lock for that 10 jersey.

Heremiah Murray was supposed to play 15 for the Development team on Saturday but was pulled pre game due to Jock's injury. May just be for cover or maybe he's going to fill the spot at 15

Yeah good point on HMP. I’d have Gordon on the bench as cover for flyhalf and fullback.
If Ryan got hooked for that, Jock got off lightly for his tap back in near the reds tryline. That was gross.
