NSW AAGPS 2025

Ok everyone.
The AAGPS tipping comp is up again.

I am once more happy to do this job. I have time on my hands as I am now medically retired.
In the past this has been a lot of fun and each year we see winners come from many backgrounds.
Last year it was a schoolboy who won (won't reveal the school)

Question?

Would like to participate this season.
Entries close on WEDNESDAY before round 1.
Just reply with an indication of wanting to join.

There are limited places again this.
In 2025 I am though deleting tippers who miss three rounds in a row.
When this happens I will invite those who missed out to join and they will start with the points of the deleted tipper.

A reminder on how this works...

TIPPING COMPETITION. How does this work?

For those new here I hope this explains this.

With only three games each week I devised a system where players can score more
This is achieved by using margins.
Various margins are worth points.

Points break down.

Lose- 0

Win- 3 points if your margin is BELOW +5 of the final score

Win- 5 points if your margin is ABOVE and WITHIN the +5

Win- 10 points you pick the margin exactly

DRAW- 20 points If you select a draw

Here is this in action.

Game is Scots College v Sydney Boys High

Final result

Scots 10 High 32

Winning margin +22

The following members chose the following. Here is how they scored

Headbutt- chose Scots +25 (0 points)

Guppy- chose High +10 (3 points, a win but below the margin)

Muppet- chose High +26 (5 points, win within +5 of the margin)

Fluke- chose High +22 (10 points, win with the exact margin)

Maximum you can score in one week is 30 points. These margins come in handy as you can run down leaders or make a break. Plus is you fail to get your tips in you are given by default the away teams with no margin.

Tips are taken by PUBLISHING them here with a post. I will endeavor to have them added by 3:15pm on Saturday.

NO TIPS are accepted after this time.

You may wish to message me as well.

TIPPING comp entries will close this WEDNESDAY 14 May @5pm .

Sorry I haven't been on for a while now. How long is Rex out for? And if fit to return, will he be considered for some kind of captaincy?
Twister here

I believe Francis is a school prefect as well as Anderton Stock being the second head boy, not sure about Galligan apart from Cob.

Although a reasonable possibility, I don’t think Rex will be appointed any leadership positions due to a) his late return from injury & b) the availability of boys with leadership experience and equally impressive on-field intellect.

Galligan a '1st batch' prefect aswell.

Is the actually much feeling in this rivalry? wasnt aware.
The rivalry was huge in the 1970's. Joeys were the dominate team in the AAGPS and Waverley were very strong as well. When they played, the games were remembered for violence on field and off. I myself was knockout with a coward punch in a line out. The brawl that followed was enormous I was told as my brothers forgot about me and went after anything yellow and blue. In the junior grades there were send offs and many a kid ending up badly injured. The Waverley lads dished it out but the Marists gave as good as they got. Eventually in 1980 Joeys made there one and only QLD tour winning all three games against Terrace, Nudgee and Brisbane Boys. They would have played Waverley but missed this as they were away. Joeys never played them again for many years. By then the nasty had diminished somewhat. Should be a good game. I will be there!

Sorry to hear that Joker, not good. My memories aren't as similar even though my era was late 70's, but more about the quality of games over the years. In recent times the few games played have been very different to the 70's. My view is that both schools like playing running rugby, not a kick a thon style of game, thus the number and quality of tries scored.

I do support your view of the winning AAGPS school playing the CAS school, and in more recent times ISA, each year. Big crowd guaranteed.
Preferably before a big senior game like a test match.

G'day Fellas,

Schooner Scorer here, 60 second snippet, Scoring the rugby.

Reporting in from the frozen north where the Guinness is flat, the rugby’s flatter, and the pubs shut before fourth grade kickoff. But fear not — I’ve tuned the VPN to Streamer, lit the heater with an old Joeys jersey, and I’m ready to dissect another season of God’s game: AAGPS Rugby 2025.

Word on the wind is Kings have been lifting more than their fees this year, Newington’s recruited half of Tonga again, and Shore’s 1st XV looks like a 2nd XV with a really good attitude. Meanwhile, Joeys? Still pumping out Number 12s like it’s a communion wafer factory.

Get ready for bold predictions, spirited banter, and more schooner metaphors than the Royal Oak on a Saturday night.

Let’s play on.

Schooner Scorer Out.

G’day Schooner Scorer,

CAS Rugby reporting in.

Glad to hear you’ve got the VPN humming and the heater glowing - classic commitment to the land of schoolboy rugby. We’ve been doing our own pre-season prep: Barker’s GPS conversion rates are better than their goal kicking, Waverley’s still trying to turn Bondi boys into breakdown specialists, and Trinity reckons this might just be their year (as they do every year - bless).

We’ve heard the tales from the other side of the schoolboy rugby premier comps - the competition so elite even their oranges are privately educated - Joeys producing inside centres like they’re on a cattle farm, Kings adding another wing to the gym, and Shore just happy to be involved. Love to see it.

Looking forward to another season of sideways passes, sideline banter, and the eternal hunt for the perfect pre-match bacon and egg roll

Let the games begin.

CAS Rugby - tuned in, taped up, and ready to run it.
(Preferably not into a GPS forward pack.)

From what I've gathered this was Newington's 1st XV and 2nd XV which ran out against Kings last Thursday

(Previous team)

1st XV
1. Harry Davies (1sts)
2. Annikian Richardson (16As)
3. Isaiah Sheck (16As/1sts)
4. Reid McCleery (16As)
5. Kupo M (NEW)
6. Henry Lapham (3rds)
7. Ashton Thomas (1sts)
8. Dylan Simmons (1sts)
9. Connor Mosely (2nds)
10. Jack Robertson (2nds)
11. Heamasi Maksini (1sts)
12. Tyson Price (Injured)
13. Jarryd King (16As)
14. Bailey Roberts (2nds)
15. Callum Grantham (1sts)

2nd XV
1. Buddy Latham (2nds)
2. Harry Keeping (16As)
3. Adam Williams (16As)
4. Lucas Broderick (16As)
5. Lachlan M-S (2nds)
6. Alex Phemister (16As)
7. Riley Budha (16As)
8. Max Colins (16As)
9. Harry Whitaker (16As)
10. Cooper More (16As)
11. Tom Peacock (3rds)
12. Fletcher Lapthrone (4ths)
13. Ofa Latu (16As)
14. Toby Webb (2nds)
15. Louis Ewington (3rds)

The sketch up is set to change. Unsure of IIiyaz Viliamu, Nathan Perkins, Dan Muir, Keone A-T, Kden Carter, Braith Sloane at the moment due to injuries and unavailability for the fixture - But all likely to slot into either 1sts or 2nds.

That looks like a pretty nice 1st XV. I was a big fan of Rodwell. Thought he was criminally underrated this year and no doubt they will miss him field marshalling around the pack. Should be much more competitive than most think though...
