My Brisbane contact tells me the Shore v Brisbane State high game was a great contest, Shore looking much more settled with some key inclusions, the scrum still needs work but they were up against a monster pack, costly misses of conversions were the difference

Not sure if it has already been mentioned but would love to see Newington teams list for 1st and 2nds. As well as any people we should be keeping an eye on for the season or any young guns (year 10s) as I’ve heard they have brought in a few new players. Keen for the season

Anyone have a lineup for Shore 1st, 2nds and 3rds teams to play Trial 1 against Knox this Saturday? It's looking to be a memorable fixture as I believe it may be the first time ever Shore plays Knox on the day of the Knox fete, so there will be a huge Knox home crowd present. Although, last time (pretty sure) that a GPS team played against Knox on the day of the their fete (obviously away at Knox), was Joeys in 2016, were they embarrassed them in a 38-3 win, in front of an enormous home crowd.

I'm not sure as to how this fixture will play out as Rex Bassingthwaite will be on the sidelines due to injury, but I beleive Jai Callaghan will be playing in his normal fullback position, so 1 out of 2 star players is better than none, but I don't think it will be enough to get them over the line. Given there's only been some informal trials from both schools during school holidays and the back end of March, it's hard to say which team looks more in favour of for this fixture, although, due to Knox having more returning 1st XV players (note some very good ones), based solely off that (as I haven't really had a chance to gauge how either team performs as a group due to no proper games yet), I would tip in favour of Knox, also because their whole team looks to possess a lot more size on average per individual than Shore. That winning team prediction also aligns with the pattern that has eventuated from this fixture in past years.

In the past couple of years, there is a reoccurring pattern where in this Shore vs Knox fixture, the home team wins. In 2021, and 2023, it was Knox at home winning both, and oppositely, in 2022 and 2024, it was Shore at home winning both. Although, prior to covid, which venue was played at each year was different, as after covid odd years now at Knox and even years now at Northbridge, as in 2019 that fixture was at Northbridge and 2018 at Warrawee, which Knox won both convincingly. It makes sense as the schools alternate the venue each year, and covid in 2020 meaning no trial games mucked up the order of alternating venue. I've been to this fixture every year since 2018, so I remember all the games since then, but I do not know much at all of this fixture prior to 2018.

After researching for this fixture's records prior to 2018, I could not find much. I'd be keen to get some details on this fixture from previous years to 2018, but I think that before 2018 these schools hadn't played each other for a substantial period, not since 2006, where Knox just won (please correct me if I'm wrong about 2006 being the last time before 2018). Prior to 2018, I think there may have only been 2 fixtures since 2006, so Shore vs Knox from around 2007 to 2017 had maybe 0 to 2 of those fixtures (at either venue), which makes sense as an old forum post from 2018 stated 'shore heads down the pacific highway to face Knox at Warrawee for the first time in many years'.

I would really appreciate some details on previous scores and what years this fixture occurred, as many as possible, but mainly after the ones since early 2000's. Given what I've found at what I already know, I think Shore might not have beat Knox at Warrawee since the early 2000's, which means that it's more than likely Shore's longest drought at a specific venue, which against GPS schools it's riverview since 2007. A sore loser would blame it on that the difference in altitude of 100 metres between Knox 1 and Northbridge A, which funnily at the GPS vs CAS game last year, a person I was watching the game with said that it's a little harder to breathe as the air feels 'thinner', which would have only been exacerbated by how cold it gets on Winter nights in the upper north Shore, as we all know what it feels like watching the GPS 1st XV vs CAS 1st XV game at 8pm on a June night at Knox 1; pitch black outside of the school grounds (more schools should take note and acquire floodlights for night games), coupled with very cold temperatures, means you need a warm meat pie or a sausage to prevent frostbite.

Anyways, apologies for my spiel, but this is may be my favourite fixture in all of world rugby (when at Knox 1), due to my affiliations with both schools. Shore vs Barker is up there as well for me, due to my affiliations with Barker, although less than Knox. This year has got to be one of the best for me in terms of fixtures, as 2 of my absolute favourite games happening in back to back weeks, and once more, Shore vs Barker at my favourite stadium, Allianz. Extra special that one, as Shore 1st XV has not played Barker since 2019.

I could not give an educated tip for this week as I do not know enough of either team yet to make an educated guess, but if I had to tip, I'd go something like 36-16 to Knox, but I hope I get proven wrong.

Agree Newitonga. I love a good cross-association clash. There are some great rivalries between associations.

You've got the inner west rivalries: ISA - St Pats, AAGPS - Newington, CAS - Trinity

and also the classic battles between the schools of the east: AAGPS - Scots, CAS - Cranbrook, CAS - Waves (playing scots this year, no love lost between those two).

I feel as though the schools in the North Shore rivalries across associations aren't as strong. Happy to be proven wrong.

What are everyone elses favourite cross association clashes? @Joker should have some good ones.

Shores leadership team announced today for 2025. Congratulations to Charlie Francis (Captain of Rugby), Charlie Galligan (Vice Captain) and Anderton Stock (Vice Captain) on their selections. Shore looks to be in steady hands following a victorious season last year.
Good to see Galligan picked as a captain, he's a true modern day Lock. Will be great for set piece, can see him going far this year, just hopefully no more Red Cards for the GPS.

Sorry I haven't been on for a while now. How long is Rex out for? And if fit to return, will he be considered for some kind of captaincy?

Ok everyone.
The AAGPS tipping comp is up again.

I am once more happy to do this job. I have time on my hands as I am now medically retired.
In the past this has been a lot of fun and each year we see winners come from many backgrounds.
Last year it was a schoolboy who won (won't reveal the school)

Question?

Would like to participate this season.
Entries close on WEDNESDAY before round 1.
Just reply with an indication of wanting to join.

There are limited places again this.
In 2025 I am though deleting tippers who miss three rounds in a row.
When this happens I will invite those who missed out to join and they will start with the points of the deleted tipper.

A reminder on how this works...

TIPPING COMPETITION. How does this work?

For those new here I hope this explains this.

With only three games each week I devised a system where players can score more
This is achieved by using margins.
Various margins are worth points.

Points break down.

Lose- 0

Win- 3 points if your margin is BELOW +5 of the final score

Win- 5 points if your margin is ABOVE and WITHIN the +5

Win- 10 points you pick the margin exactly

DRAW- 20 points If you select a draw

Here is this in action.

Game is Scots College v Sydney Boys High

Final result

Scots 10 High 32

Winning margin +22

The following members chose the following. Here is how they scored

Headbutt- chose Scots +25 (0 points)

Guppy- chose High +10 (3 points, a win but below the margin)

Muppet- chose High +26 (5 points, win within +5 of the margin)

Fluke- chose High +22 (10 points, win with the exact margin)

Maximum you can score in one week is 30 points. These margins come in handy as you can run down leaders or make a break. Plus is you fail to get your tips in you are given by default the away teams with no margin.

Tips are taken by PUBLISHING them here with a post. I will endeavor to have them added by 3:15pm on Saturday.

NO TIPS are accepted after this time.

You may wish to message me as well.

TIPPING comp entries will close this WEDNESDAY 14 May @5pm .

Is the actually much feeling in this rivalry? wasnt aware.
KC, I will take some poetic license here and add a bit to what the Joker intimated about this rivalry.

Firstly it will never rival the View v Joeys world, but nor will any other rivalry.

Having seen it first hand as a young boy, and played in 4 battles myself, Joeys have played Waverley many times over the decades, and I can go back quite a way.
Both schools have dominated their respective associations by winning almost twice as many premierships as their nearest school.

Both schools are well aware that any such confrontation will be fair dinkum, and they nearly always end up that way, across all A grades.

Funnily enough if I refer to my own 2 boys, both schools have played each a few times whilst at school and the games were brilliant, and at club level on Sundays, so they all know each other very well, and had a real respect and dislike of each other. boy stuff!
What has transpired since school, is many of them are now playing at Randwick together, and they have become the absolute BEST of mates.
Have had many of them at my home and it's just funny.
You have to laugh but isn't it terrific what sport brings about.

The Joker may/may not be referring to some of the historical comments I have made, but I suspect it's slightly more than just Catholics v Catholics.

P.S. Joker the 2019 game at Death Valley was 1 of the best schoolboy games I have witnessed, running rugby at it's best, 7 tries each and 7 conversions v 6, and the Waves missed conversion hit the post. Joeys won 49-47.
I won't bring up the previous 2017 game at Joeys, but look look forward to this Saturdays game at Joeys, it is the best schoolboy ground.
I am also told this years Joeys side is red hot, so should be a fair battle.

Go the Waves!
