Queensland Reds 2025

Kalani deserves/wants a starting position i'd say, unless Tate is taking a sabattical in 2026 then i'd say Kalani will take an opportunity elsewhere and hence why they've locked in Louis.

Managing specialist positions in professional squads has always been pretty tough.

There aren't a whole lot of genuine SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) starting quality halfbacks out there so keeping a couple in the match day 23 for these last few seasons has been good. Louis unfortunately I think is major step down from Kalani but that is life.

Wait and see what happens I guess.

I rate werchon’s pass and it’s always handy to have a left footer in the team. For the good of Aus rugby I’m happy to let Thomas go.
They also have James Martens coming through from the U20s, he looks real good.

Probably recycling the same rumours posted here previously about it, which is based on Welsh reporting
I wouldn't expect anything concrete as far as signings with Welsh teams go for a couple of weeks - Cardiff going into administration means all their players are technically free agents (ala the Rebels) and they've got a week or two to decide if they want to sign new contracts with the WRU run Cardiff Blues. Even if they all stick around at Cardiff it'll probably take some time for things to settle in Wales.
Confirmed now

A short extract from Christy Doran at the Roar:

"Rugby Australia had hoped to appoint Kiss as Schmidt’s successor a week ago, but their attempts to announce the 60-year-old as the next Wallabies coach have been slowed by the backroom dealings between the national body and the Queensland Rugby Union."

If it is true, it pleases me. Push hard Reds.

Putting on my conspiracy tin hat now. Coaches always say the hardest game to win is the week after you play in Fiji. So the Tahs get a bye the week after they play there, while the Reds have a six day turnaround before having to play the Tahs in Sydney. Just bad luck?

There are a lot of weird things in the schedule, that would not rate high I don't think.

Thought it's worth a comment here - the ANZAC presentation last night was top notch. Sincere respect in so many areas and carried off very well. Well done to all involved.
As a former AJ, it amused me they forgot to set the flag poles up before the boys marched out though. Resulting in a short benny hill attempt at piecing them together while everyone waited. The CSM would have been sweating bullets over that.

Besides that good show, I’m happy for ANZAC Day to be recognised on the day… I do find doing it a day or two later a bit cringe and artificial though(less issue this year but in other years when ANZAC Day falls later away from the weekend).

Kiss confirmed Flook likely won’t play again this season, Daugunu due back next week
Interesting - Flook himself said last night in the post-game that he was 'close', but was pretty coy about it so could understand if it turned out he was lying through his teeth.

Was mentioned in the QPR thread but I'll whack it here too - Isaac Henry returned for Wests yesterday after 13 months. Wasn't at the game personally but I heard he played pretty damn well (any further insights welcome)

Watched the first half. Produced an absolutely thumping clearing kick in muddy conditions!

I know that nothing is coming from the Reds, but anyone know what is happening with Matt Gibbon? It would be really useful to have some extra troops over the next 2 weeks to help manage the Drua trip and short turnaround. Unfortunately the injury toll makes it trickier. Daugunu & Henry being fit again would help but would be really useful if 2-3 more of the injury list were close.
