Wouldn’t there be a large Polynesian diaspora up that way?
Surely an attractive catchment for Norths at the very least.
Norths could host junior carnivals for clubs from Caboolture, Sunshine Coast, etc so that juniors from the region can have an affiliation with the Eagles.

Yep, just like the Rugby heartlands of Logan and Ipswich...
Just because you have a club and a large number of people who fit the stereotypical demographic of people who like rugby, it doesn't automatically equate to a big and healthy player base. There are several, complex and intertwined reasons why these areas have generally low participation rates in senior rugby

Regardless of the reason for going to Caboolture, it is excellent to see Premier Rugby being played somewhere different. It would be good if this sort of thing was done more frequently and in different areas along with some QRU/Reds effort to engage local juniors in the lead up etc. Hard to achieve I know, every dollar made from a hamburger or beer sold at home grounds is crucial.

The only way for it to happen more frequently would be if the QRU subsidised the clubs to do it.
I doubt for example Souths want to be bailing on too many home games this season as you say every dollar is crucial and they're losing out this weekend.
I think the QRU have done a pretty decent job over the years with connecting to the regions outside Brisbane via Reds trials and other events. I'm not sure the QPR necessarily needs to be driving it.

Personally, I would think that the northern suburbs of Brisbane make the most sense for the QPR to expand. A club that encompasses Albany Creek, North Lakes and Caboolture would have a big drawing area.

Was it not in the 80s that Teachers-Norths merged with Redcliffe to become Colleges and subsequently Norths?

With Norths having a clean sweep thru the grades as welll. Not sure the history books would find when this last happened against Souths who traditionally have strong grade teams. Will be a massive day v Brothers at Shaw Rd in 2 weeks time.

Doubt a Grades clean sweep like that’s ever happened - Shaw Rd will hopefully be closer than years gone by but I reckon they will be fully sending it down at Hugh Courtenay tonight not even this rain will dampen their spirits and deservedly so.

Norths controlled that game nicely. A man down for 20 minutes as well. Looking forward to seeing them on a dry track as they are playing an entertaining style.

Tough day at the office for GPS.
In general rugby chat, talking to one of the Brothers staff yesterday and they reckon the comp this year has the fewest registered senior players since the early 2000s.
From the sounds of it, nearly every club aside from UQ and Filth might struggle to field a 5th grade side unless they have guys doubling across 4ths and 5ths all season. Some clubs won’t have a 5ths at all and struggle for 4ths.
There is a theory that this shitty weather has kept some of the casuals away who can’t be farked training and playing in the mud so hopefully a few come down over the coming weeks. But not great news and I know the lack of depth is definitely being felt at GPS.

Yep Colts numbers are down at GPS as well, although they’ve managed to get a Colts 3 on the field.
It was only about 5-6 years ago that GPS had multiple seasons of 70+ players coming through Colts.
