QLD Premier Rugby 2025

looks like a cracking season with only three undefeated teams after round 2

looks like UQ could be in for a long season
I know that UQ have had a heap of retirements across the grades and some player movement but the scoreline concerned me. Interested in hearing from "the experts" who were there and what they thought. Seems UQ's defence was non-existent, there is now a lack of experience and depth and maybe other things.

Six former 2024 UQ premier grade players now playing for Easts hasn’t helped things

I'll say it....Wests too cocky
To be fair Wests are almost a completely new side from last year. I think they debuted 10 players round 1 and another 4 round 2. They gave away too many penalties and some cheap turnovers in possession which should get better as combinations improve. And equally to be fair Easts look a very good side, big, strong forwards and some exciting outside backs led around by a really good 9.
All in all a great match for round 2 of the season.

Some interesting games this weekend.
Can Bond secure their first win in their first game at home or will Easts continue their good start to the season.
The match of the round will be the battle of the birds at the nest as Souths take on Norths - two sides who have impressed in the first two rounds. We will certainly know more about their respective chances after this one. Wests v Uni - the Bulldogs by plenty. Brothers v GPS another classic encounter that will tell us a lot about their respective chances - Brothers might be too strong at home, but GPS hasn’t fully declared itself in 2025 as yet. Would like to see a GPS win as it would really open up this premiership race.
Sunnybank will enjoy the break - giving Tyrell time to work on a few things with the Dragons.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Bond put in a Bunter Bowl challenge as they will rate themselves a good chance against the Tigers at home.
I think the last two year have finished with winning tries in the last play of the game. So expect another classic encounter at the pond.

The battle of the birds at Souths' Nest, Chipsy Wood will have to wait till next year. I am reliably informed that, as a result of Chipsy Wood field being destroyed and turned to a muddy potato patch against Sunnybank, the field is unplayable this weekend. Souths made a request of Norths to switch home game rounds, which, I am told, was knocked back.
As a result all games this weekend, have been...wait for it... transfered to Caboolture.
Not an ideal situation for either Club. In hindsight, maybe the decision to play multiple games on Chipsy Wood, during heavy prolonged rain, wasn't the best move.

Caboolture that seems weird and it is correct it per Rugby Explorer

Caboolture?! That's just ridiculous.
Surely there's a southside ground available somewhere.
What were they thinking!

I don’t think it was knocked back so much, more that they only have 1 of the 3 fields open. Caboolture does have decent facilities and despite the drive, would be a good exposure to kids up that way.

So after the first couple of games and mostly watching GPS and a few others on replay, the comp this year seems to have a lot of new players. I know that news article from a few weeks ago had a lot of movement.

I reckon in the GPS team at least half seem to be new recruits and from that bunch there are clearly some really talented players.

Do we think this is a result of QPR and Oz rugby in general becoming a good proving ground for international and interstate talent? Or are we losing some of the local grown lads who are genuine 1st graders and this is the way of the future?

What are people’s thoughts on their own club?
