Do you know for a fact that McReight has signed for 3x what Tizzano would stay for..

Not at all, I’m throwing out hypothetical scenarios.

I think it’s a fairly safe guess that with McReight coin we could easily afford to keep Tizzano and a few other key players.

I’m also not suggesting the McReight coin is poorly spent. But it does highlight a few issues around what Derpus points out with the direction of SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) and really what the future holds. There is a really interesting dynamic between players being retained, players being overseas and even what Schmidt/Wallabies coach in future will do about selecting players who we know are going overseas.

For example I’ll be interested to see if we allow JOC (James O'Connor) to be selected this year considering his form probably earns him a squad spot. I think it makes sense to give him an exemption outside the Giteau law as he’s still playing in SRP (Super Rugby Pacific).

Sure but even discussing hypothetically we need to understand whether these figures are accurate to argue that Tizzano could be retained for 1/3 of what McReight is on. Noting that we dont even know what that figure is given we've seen anywhere between $600k and $900k mentioned. I'd say the truth is somewhere in the middle.

There are reports Fraser turned down $1.3M per year in Japan.

I'm going to assume we've wrapped him up for about $1M per season. Based on previous reports of 'average' Super Rugby salaries I reckon Tizzano probably looking at $450k per year to stay in OZ. So, most likely we actually wouldn't be keeping 3 x Tizzano's for the same cash.

If Japanese rugby offering anything around that $1.3M figure for McReight and Tizzano is seen as the clear second best openside we have, you'd have to think they're tabling something in the area of $800k+ per year to make it 'life changing' vs what he would get here.

Until RA start being more transparent around player salaries we can do nothing except speculate.

EDIT: Also articles back in 2018 saying Liam Gill was on $500k+ in Japan back then, so I reckon $800k+ for Tizzano is probably about right in current market.

Allegedly turned down a reported $1.3million(a figure leaked by his manager to pressure RA), that's not what he signed for in Australia

There are also articles a couple of months back that claimed RA had offered him $600k

And If Tizzano is getting offered $800k in Japan, RA can't keep him 3x over anyway.

I would imagine he would be near that figure wouldn't he Adam? I been reading an article where NZR more or less saying that top ABs are getting a million a year, plus about $300,000 match fees and that still 30-100% less than they can get overseas, I would guess McReight would be pulling in similar money as them in Japan? Though the biggest money is for locks and 10s, he would still be close?
I still stoked with likes of McReight etc staying at home. And genuinely pissed off you losing Noah.

I think it’s closer to 900k. He was said to have left about a mil on the table signing with RA. I’m pretty sure Tizzano will sign an extension soon and for manageable money. I’m more interested in what we’re gonna do with Tom Wright.
