Yep, in either case were going to see 6 games a weekend for a number of rounds.. So its quite possible we might see Sunday footy come to Super Rugby which is exciting.

^ with three & for a few weeks four time zones it should be possible to have a Sunday arvo game every week & occasionally two.

Not my choice but have to accept decision made and hope it can somehow be successful. Skeptical but would of course happy to be wrong but without any other changes I see this at risk of more of the same past cross border super rugby fiascos.

Then watch them sit in amazement as dropping teams fails to make any of the others more competitive but instead completely destroys the development pathways that exist in the state that is dropped, making the Wallabies even more shit. (Obviously the solution offered to this will be to drop more teams ).

100%, NZ need to be more open with their players if they expect Australia to compete with kiwi teams, and they need to make an effort to facilitate that. Otherwise, Super Rugby Pacific is doomed to fail..
This doesn’t even consider the financial difference the unions face, NZRU is flush with recurring revenue from massive sponsorships and broadcast rights that RA can only dream of.
As much as i’d like it to be, this is not the foundation of a competitive tournament..

Despite claims from NZ that they'd love Aus to be more competitive, they've done nothing to address the intrinsic and ongoing root causes of the inequality between our teams.
Instead they seem to have employed the 'hopes and prayers' approach where they "hope" that Australian teams get better. And when that fails there are recurrent calls from NZ media for Aus to drop teams. Of course neither of these "solutions" actually address the (continually growing) gulf in resources, talent and structures, leading to the death spiral of Australian rugby only getting worse.

I think we will only have 3 games on a Saturday if Force have a home game (and even then I not sure), I really can't see Ch 9 wanting anymore games on a Saturday afternoon then can be helped, as it not a good time as most people are at rugby etc? So if you had a game at 5pm in NZ it would be 3pm in Eastern states of Aus,would work AK (Andrew Kellaway) for NZ, but not Aus, so I think rightfully try to avoid that. I think we have seen with general times of games in WA they are based around what is good for Eastern states where biggest population is. I can see 2-3 Friday (if Force are home) 2 Saturday and 1 on Sundy arvo. We have to remember that only one game on FTA so guessing Ch 9 will pick a Sat or Sun game for that. be honest doesn't make much difference to me, I watch everything anyway, but would only be pissed if we ever got arvo games here in NZ (I at rugby)
Whatever we will get more than last year where there were only 4 games a weekend .

It ain't going to happen boys, neither in my opinion should it. the best solution if it such a big problem there is a whole world full of players, you know like the Pumas flanker (Pablo matera) that wanted to play for the Tahs and got told no thanks , you better bugger off elsewhere. Force seem to be ONLY Aussie team thats is shopping around to strengthen their side.
And as for NZR being flush, w I not sure what the probelm there is. I keep reading that NZ in here rugby can't survive without Australia's population and now I reading you upset because well actually they can make a lot more than RA, with a population of 5 mill , because maybe they see we have an international game, and just maybe it seems are run better?

Ok if its not going to happen... Then lets call this tournament what it is,nothing more then a gap filler until Australia gets a domestic tournament of its own and cuts Super Rugby.
Honestly thats the proposition, if NZ aren't willing to bend and be flexible to make Super Rugby competitive, then it should be scrapped.
I just remember seeing you post articles about the All Blacks new jersey sponsorship recently, which reportedly makes it the richest in the games history at $50million/year... Seems pretty flush with money to me. Not upset just stating the facts and sad reality Dan, when you have a significant discrepancy in finances and playing resources, then you're a fool to expect there to be competitiveness between the teams.

Genuinely have mixed feelings about this comp, while domestic would have always been the better options, the fact of just 5 teams and the top down structure of the game here was always going to make that choice a bridge to far, add an RA board that never looked like it had the vision, desire or skills to impliment that and so, here we are.
On the flip side this looks a 100% better than the last monstrosity of Super Rugby, the addition of Pacific teams does look like a wrong undone. I am somewhat curious how after 10yrs of being told a single pacific entity was never financially viable, yet somehow now in 6 months we are going to whip up 2 of them.
The comp dates of Feb 18-June 18 imo is wrong, starting in summer and finising pretty much just after pre-season doesn't lend itself to growing a proper following, but what options are there with Test Primacy.
I don't mind the finals option of 8 teams it keeps interest in the lower half of the draw, I follow the A league with a 6 team final from what was 10 teams but it made games with the bottom teams still relevant throughout the comp.
It does seem to have a fresh look about it, even this far out. And looks a lot more simpler or easy to follow, it will be interestng to see how that resonates with casual fans. Oh well, rock on February

I think the Feb 18th kick off shows how there is a bit of give and take from both sides. NZR apparently didn'y want to start until later, but RA pushed for earlier start, which although I think is too early, I can understand, they get a bit of live rugby on tv before NRL/AFL starts. Which will ultimately compromise the competition, but i'm not sure whether NZ especially with 2 new pacific teams, who will no doubt source some of there playing stock from NZ based players will be prepared to lose more potential players. We're adding 60/65 players from our region, that alone is going to create some shortage in player stocks, so 3/4 players less each franchise will have to choose from, not sure especially the kiwi teams whether they will want to then accommodate other teams further.

Mate I understand your concerns, but my main advice would be , we have got what we got now, so suggest all rugby people get behind it and let's be positive! I personally think it will be ok, I wasn't for 8 team finals, but if it gets maybe a few more people hanging in there who am I to argue. I actually think if you get sayRebels or someone in 8th (just any team from anywhere) and they play say Blues (just giving DP etc hope that they are top qualifiers
) I would think that would create extra excitement for Rebel's supporters as they hoping for upset etc. It's certainly got it's merits the comp, as well as maybe problems while it beds in.I will be watching it all anyway!

Will be very interested to see how the draw shakes out for this competition. This years trans-tasman draw was about as bad as it could of been for Australian chances. so any re-organization that sees the games against the kiwis split up with the games against the other Australian sides can only help.
Hopefully we also see more 'event' rounds - Ideally they'll make the most of Anzac day, now that the competition is Australia and New Zealand focused and factor in some other competition wide themed rounds - Pasifika, Heritage, etc.

a bit a cop out to suggest we should just get behind it, it’s easy for a kiwi to argue that when they got exactly what they wanted, and their teams will actually be the ones winning.
a bit of flexibility and compromise by New Zealand and this could be a great tournament everyone could get behind.. short sightedness
