Young Reds

Hire Kate Cebrano to sing for them everytime the lace up the boots.

"Young Reds are my weakness, I just like the sweetness"

Then she could also be like that house maid on the ice hockey movie Youngblood & let them all pole her.

Weekes is the one they need to lock in. Probably the best scrummaging THP in the country at the moment. Even gave it to Fatcat in the first round. You banjo pluckers seem to love Daley but he's got a lot to learn at scrum time.

this is as good a place as any to post the QLD A team to plays the Tah A team on Sunday

Pretty good team. Does anyone know the Tahs A side?

I can't find where it's been announced yet but I expect it would look something like:

1. Tilse
2. Ben Roberts
3. Paddy Ryan
4. Thommo (c)
5. Sigg
6. Coridas
7. McCutcheon
8. Alcock
9. McKibbin
10. Seymour
11.Nemoli (or whatever Ratu calls himself these days)
12. Azar
13. Bennets
14. Rockobaro
15. Darcy
Not sure about the bench. ?Ofa still injured? Roberson will be reserve hooker.
No Rock Stars as they are all in SA. Palms and Dud would have been good.

Judging by how the Dud looked in SA, no, he wouldn't have been good, unfortunately. He looks like he needs a season of intense training and club matches to get up to the level of fitness and mobility required.

He'd still be better than Thomson, who looks like he just doesn't give a crap anymore.

didn't go, but from the QRU:

The QAS Reds 2nd XV let in a late try to the Junior Waratahs in a heated affair at Ballymore to go down 18-14.

The match was marred by a wealth of penalties against both teams at the breakdown and ended with three players receiving yellow cards - Reds 2nd XV prop Albert Anae and Waratahs prop Jeremy Tilse were sent from the field for a small melee in the final minute, while Waratahs lock Dylan Sigg was given his marching orders just minutes early for a professional foul.

Queensland held the lead 14-11 midway through the second half when flyhalf Tim Walsh kicked his second penalty goal of the match, but former QAS Reds Academy member Brendan McKibbin responded with the game winning try for the Junior Waratahs in the concluding stages.

The Reds 2nd XV threw everything at their opponents in the dying stages and could have scored the go-ahead try but a pass from Richard Kingi to an unmarked Blair Connor just metres from the line flew over the wingers head.

Reds 2nd XV coach Paul Carozza said his side failed to adapt to the ‘stop-start’ and slow nature of the game that eventuated with both teams heavily penalised at the breakdown.

“We made a lot of mistakes and the stop-start nature wasn’t what we wanted. We wanted to play a more up-tempo game,” Carozza said.

“(But) there were opportunities in the last 10 minutes that we should have made more of and you need to capitalise on chances like that.”

Carozza said the physical hitout would put the team in good stead ahead of their rematch in Sydney on March 7 after having previously playing in three one-sided victories over Argentina’s Club Atletico San Isidro (90-10), Queensland’s Premier XV (48-7) and the Australian Barbarians (59-7).

“It was definitely good to have a much more physical contest and a challenging game. And the good news is we get to play them again,” he said.

Both teams scored a try in the opening half and kicked a penalty goal to see the scores locked 8-all at halftime.

Queensland’s try came from centre Brando Va’aulu following a pinpoint long ball from Lucas close to the line.

The Reds 2nd XV reshuffled their backline to begin the second half with Lucas moving to scrumhalf, Tim Walsh to flyhalf, Richard Kingi to fullback and Aidan Toua to the wing.

Kingi and Walsh were strong backing up their efforts in Saturday night’s QR Reds and Blues game, while Lucas was impressive in both playmaking positions.

However they couldn’t convert any of their opportunities to tries and McKibbin made them pay with his late try.

Junior Waratahs 18 (Paddy Ryan, Brendan McKibbin tries, Brendan McKibbin 2 pens, con) def QAS Reds 2nd XV 14 (Brando Va’aulu try, Tim Walsh 2, Ben Lucas pens)

So what is Lucas' story at the moment? I know Genia is a gun but Lucas is a handy player based on what I've seen of him and could be useful as a benchie for 9-12

Good to see Tilse firing up! IMO he's still a good prop, just unfortunate to be at the wrong franchise with a lot of good props in front of him, and he's had some injury trouble. Melbourne could do worse (and probably already have).

Jeez I dunno topo - he can't even make Uni First XV and from what I've seen, even when he was there Jerry Yanawhatever was a better scrummager and more handy around the park.

He was in Uni 1sts last year until he got injured at the end of the first round and didn't play for the rest of the year. Nerve injury in his neck, I think. He plays THP at Uni and Jerry is on the other side. He was in 2s before that but behind Weekes and you've seen how good he is over the last few weeks. It will be very interesting this year with Jerry Yanuyanu, Tilse and Paddy Ryan all vying for 2 spots. Both Tilse and Ryan can play both sides, Jerry is LHP only. I suspect Jerry (if fit, he is currently injured) will keep the LHP and Ryan and Tilse will fight out the other side.

apparently PAE has been attracting some interest from France, might be considering heading over there for a stint next year

that's not a bad thing. He should be capped now though. Perhaps in 7s for a couple of seconds.

Then go over there for a year or two.

and come home of course.

Speaking of young Reds (thread hijack warning), I am going to take my 13 month old son to the Force game next sunday afternoon. Anyone know if they will make me by him a ticket?

Don't understand why they haven't given him a run in QAS side. Precisely why these players go overseas.
