No, what you said was:-
Picking Beale over Mils was a "joke" - patently ridiculous as both were nominated for IRB player of the year, so picking one over the other is not a joke.
Anyone picking Mitchell over Gear was an idiot. Mitchell played the whole international season, scored 9 tries. Pretty good going for a winger. Gear did not. These compilation teams are usually based on the whole season, not 4 EOYT matches. Gear is very good. But picking Mitchell over Gear does not make someone an idiot. Both are very good wingers at the moment.
Making silly statements about winning percentages as an indicator of how often a player (out of 22 on the field) does not help. And nobody argued all the Wallabies were world beaters.

if it were a points decision over the whole year then i would agree that Mitchell would have the nod, but really if you go game by game it would be a knock-out to Gear

Plus give me the aspects of Beale that would enable you to say he had a better year than Mils

mate I'm saying, and read this carefully, that its not a coincidence that the wobs players form seem comparable with their winning %

Only to you.
It was a year long thing, so if Mitchell would get the points, that was my point! Made several times.
I was not saying Beale must be better, I was contending that picking him over Mils is not a joke. Did you actually watch any games he played? Scored a few good tries, made a lot of good line breaks, as did Mils. Both very good players, as I think I might have said earlier.
And I read very carefully, indeed more carefully than some others.

i accept your point, but Mils organised that lethal AB back three with distinction all year round and which hardly ever made mistakes and scored crucial tries at important times in matches. Not criticising you BTW, just dont believe you take in consideration all the little things involved, which is usually what coaches point out as being the most important factor for consistency. Not saying Beale isn't capable, just inconsistent. I just believe people would pick him for flashes of brilliance, rather than consistently performing when it matters, which does usually come with age but i dont think he is there yet and certainly not up to what Mils showed this year, which was that he is a seasoned professional

The whole Mils / Beale full back debate is a bit silly. The style in which they play and their offerings to a side are so close to eachother that it isn't funny. The exececution of both players this year has been supurb. You could flip a coin to decide this selection and not loose a single thing regardless of the result.

The only edge is that Mils has more experience and that would probably help him to better function in a team of strangers.

Dwats - massive AB fan here, been one 20 odd years, love them to bits, hate all oppositions passionately for 80 minutes when we play them.

But nothing wrong with Beale being picked over Mils. At the end of the year, if I removed my ridiculously blinkered biased sunnies, I'd probably have Beale over Mils myself. Certainly not a joke.

And since when did world XV's becoming about consistency? Most NZ fans would have Cullen as their all time fullback, but jeez he hardly had the best most consistent all round game. Latham and Burke would beat him to that easily. But he had some amazing flashes of brilliance. And you can't say some of Beale's runs this year weren't Cullen esque in type.

Dobduff - you forgot the big world sports of Netball, Softball to add to things we are good at... well, by big I mean.... well, we care about them!!

I can't believe you gave us good at Cricket - have you ever watched our team?

yeah but only an idiot would pick mitchell over gear

Sound reasoning there. Have you been approached to coach the Darkness after GH leaves? If not, I would expect to get the call soon. Your preternatural instinct for the game can't have gone unnoticed in the shaky isles.

For bigger sports, I'd say we pull above our weight in Sailng, Triathlon's and Rowing.

But as for team sports.. erm, yeah.

Only undefeated team in the Soccer World Cup, MR. That's a fine feather in NZ's cap.

Ha, yeah... but I'm not about to start making ridiculous claims about the quality of our soccer team!

that's a pub quiz question for the ages though, if ever there was one. Right up alongside whose the current olympic champions at rugby.
