This year's World Rugby Awards are in Monte Carlo on 26/11.

The first category for which nominees have been named is Breakthrough Player:

For some reason (only a very uninformed hunch on the way World Rugby works) I don't think a kiwi will get it this time.

I just hope Izzy doesn't get edged out by a pom.

I thought BB has been pretty average all test season and i'm surprised by his inclusion. Thought's kiwis? Plus, only forward nominated was Itoje.
If Farrell wins he will probably be the most average player to ever win it.

The history of this award is that the people who win rarely deserve it in that year. McCaw and Carter both won it in the year they played crap and didn't win when they deserved to. It tends not to go to spectacular players, so I think Izzy is in trouble. I think Farrell is favourite because the Lions series was drawn and he's a very steady influence without the sort of spark that Kurtley (say) would bring. But there have been some very un-deserving winners in the past - one year a forgettable player from the NH won based on his club games!

Pretty unhappy with the nominations this year.

Barrett and Farrell simply haven't played well enough in their test matches this year to warrant being nominated (both were average in the Lion's series).

Rieko Ioane, whilst a talent, I don't think has done enough to be nominated either. I'm also peeved by the fact that his very inclusion all-but-guarantees he'll take out Rookie of the Year.

I think Jonathan Davies and Connor Murray, two of the Lion's most important players, have been very, very hard done by. Sean O'Brien could also be worth a look in.

Wouldn't mind seeing Hooper nominated some day - he's done more than enough to deserve it.

I think, and hope, Itoje will take it out. I'd like to back Folau but his absence on this tour almost guarantees that he won't.

No winger should ever be world player of the year, ever. Just ridiculous.

Yeah, I think I agree Derpus. Jonah Lomu would have to have been the closest to best player in the world, but wingers generally only have limited and sporadic involvements. The real work is closer in and that's where the real heroes are to be found.

I'd be suprised if Farrell or Itoje don't win it.

As much as I'd love to see Izzy get the gong, it would be weird for the winner to come from a team other than Lions/England/NZ.

Mildly interested in who wins the awards, we all have who we think who should win, but ours (like the judges) are really just another opinion.
Hell I would of had Sam Cane very close , but then again, I would of had Dane Coles winning it last year, I pretty relaxed as I can't claim to have more knowledge than the men who do pick the awards.
