Telegraph Sport understands that the new competition, which will be billed as The World Club 7s, will feature some of the biggest names in club and provincial rugby from the northern and southern hemispheres for the first time.
The tournament will feature 12 teams, with three Aviva Premiership clubs expected to be joined by the likes of Western Province from South Africa, Auckland Blues from New Zealand, ACT Brumbies from Australia, and Buenos Aires of Argentina.
The burgeoning sevens game in the United States is expected to be represented by sides from New York and Los Angeles, while a team from Moscow is also expected to be invited for the inaugural tournament, which will be held on Aug 17 and 18.

Interesting idea. Glad to see it's not being held at a time that competes with the IRB Sevens. Are the UK promoting 7s as a Summer sport?
The USA Grand Prix 7s seems to have stalled so we'll see if the English can do any better.
