Great, I wonder if he would step up at lock.

Going to the Cardiff Blues match?

We're just saying that Shorty is not a 2nd rower - and Mumm is marginal too - more like a 2nd 6 - not really one nor the other.

I really wish people would judge Mumm on his success not his height. If he doesn't get higher in the air than Horwill I'll eat nothing but nutsack for a month.

I wasn't really mentioning Mumm as marginal because of his height, though putting the comment in the same sentence as mentioning shorty Dennis looks like it.

I don't think that he is a specialist lock and it's what this Wallaby team needs with Sharpe missing. IMO Mumm at the test level is at best a lock/6 reserve but I beg leave to write later that I've changed my mind when I see improvement. I had the same opinion about Chisholm 12 months ago, and though he is not a Sharpe at lineout time he did a fine job as tight head lock on the 2008 EOYT.

I think that good TH locks are under-rated. We barely ever mention them in this forum. Ask any South African about Bakkies Botha as a TH lock though.

Yep - no wonder our scrum wasn't great at Kingsholm with those two in the 2nd row and Ma'afu struggling to boot.

Backs and gentlemen, the book on Scarf Phrase of the Year is now closed. Thank you. :thumb

I was disappointed Mumm didn't make a claim for a starting lock berth. As I and others have mentioned previously, he's a very good caller in the lineouts and gets up very well. He's also probably the fastest lock in Australia and I think he could form a great partnership with a guy like Horwill. I'm sure he'll got a shot at some point on the tour though.

I don't think that his hands at lineout are that great. I think that he's a bit like a wicket keeper with hard hands. By contrast for the Tahs in the S14 this year a backrower, Mowen, looked like he had softer hands than Mumm, and so did Caldwell.

Let's all watch Mumm the next few times we see him and see if I am right.

I may not be.

Mowen was a fantastic poacher at 2. I think he got more steals than anyone else in the S14 from memory. But the Tahs didn't lose many throws all year and it was Mumm doing the calling, with TPN throwing. I just think that's a combination worth trying, considering Mumm's pace and TPN's fantastic work around the field. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

The boys from London Welsh may be organising something. Want me to have a poke around by to Gwlad?

Thanks Thomo, I either go live or not at all though (although London Welsh is just round the corner)

I had an argument with the London Welsh people. You'll have to organise this individually through them.
