Yeah but Matt Goddard at least knew what he was talking about and showed some form of consistency.

Watched the game, and wow. I have never seen a referee who makes the game purely about himself. Wierd.

Did you not see Matt Goddard in the S14 - "I won't let you slow down my ball"
Thanks Mark was thinking the same thing. Chief are you Goddard by any means? ::)

Nah I just like Goddard's quickness to dispatch players to the sin bin in the Super 14. That's why I like him.

Terrible news for Matt To'omua. A number of these youngsters have faced setbacks, and if he responds like Luke Morahan, then it will be all good. Setbacks help develop perspective.

Happy to hear that Kurtley Beale did well in the unfamiliar wing role. Obviously rose to the challenge given him, and, given this challenge/opportunity, maybe his S14 season in 2010 will reveal the player that good judges like LG have been telling us about for some time.

Also happy for QC (Quade Cooper) and Rabbit.

The thing is, these guys are really young and have been thrown in at the deep end. Boys amongst men and all that...They should be encouraged.

Oh hell , hope you feel the same if Kaplan do the same thing.

Myself hate the cards thing, it took the contest out of the game. You only have to use them when its really needed.

Thing is Goddards player management on the field is kak. He can be glad Bakkies didnt pull him on his ears.

That was by far the funniest thing of the year for me, funny guy. I like them gives them the reminder that if they impede they pay the consequence. It provides a deterrent for them to infringe, especially when refs like Goddard referee mind you he's retired now. Then you get twats like Mark and Bryce Lawrence who don't know how to count. I'd rather a player who is willing to put players on the sideline then a referee who doesn't.

Agree with chief there. Goddard may have had the voice of a 12yo boy and lost it in a couple of games, but its better than softcock Kaplan who wouldn't even bin McCaw when, lying on his back, he knocked the ball out of Gregan's hands, right in front of the ref, when the Wallabies were hot on attack. The very definition of professional foul and Kaplan let it slide. The McCaw factor only partially explains that decision.

If you get a card out early in the game for blatant cheating (as we saw in the ARC) you put the players on notice. It also has far less effect on the game as doing it at the end.

Yeah well said, and as Goddard did in round 6 match of Hurricanes and the Bulls, you will get teams who cheat, even after they've been warned and carded. Matt Goddard didn't just set the standard at one, not even two he went all the way to stop cheating, which no referees have done this year. Maybe Alain Rolland in his South Africa- Australia match.

Well there were a lot of unhappy Canes supporters after that match. Luckily he sent two players , so it wasnt that big a deal but then he sent the Cane guy towards the end and they still feel undone by that one.

I felt he lost the plot that day and irratate the daylight shite out of me in the way he talks to the players. I prefer the Mike lawrense type of ref, that treat players like adults not like children. If it wasnt for the players , he should not have been there in the first place but I geuss this is one we'll have to agree to disagree.

Just when I felt we are going forward regarding the refs after last week , then it start all over again. ::)
