Does anyone else think it strange that Deans replaced To'omua with Cooper when he went off after 2 minutes? Is this a portent that Cooper may in fact be on the bench on Saturday? I would have thought the intelligent substitution would have been to bring on Morahan and move Beale into 10....

I think it was to give Cooper time there and let him build up his confidence, he kicked pretty well.

I don't see Beale as a 10 at the moment, more a 12 or 15. He looked much more assured than JOC (James O'Connor) at the back and made better decisions.

I think Deans was thinking we really need a win this match to avoid humiliation. I think he'll be starting verse Wales.

He also may give the 10 jumper to QC (Quade Cooper) after his performance.

OK I'm turning into a bit of a Quade Cooper fan. Slowly! But here's a line from a news article I never thought I would see!

thrust Quade Cooper into the match and his midfield presence certainly added some defensive steel to the Australian backline.

QC (Quade Cooper) really must be muscling up in defence

Deans won't give QC (Quade Cooper) the #10 jersey, he likes Giteau too much and feels he has more to offer in that area, I think he feels that this game is the game where Giteau will really prove his critics wrong. Just wait until he's disappointed again on Saturday, like the majority of the rugby supporters in Australia.

I see the highlights are up on the ARU site:

http://www.rugby.com.au/home/home/home_page,1025.html

That was a pretty nifty step by Kingi to set up the Morahan try but we know that he's got more steps than the Opera House. Hopefully he won't be a 7s specialist so we can watch him playing more 15 man rugby to see if he has other rugby attributes and is not a one trick pony. Actually 2 tricks: the offload was magic.

It was a nice offload by Beale also to set up the first try. I can't wait to see him at 12 in the Super12 if his tackling is OK. If it isn't, it will be a pity as even blind Freddie understands that half the game is played without the ball.

I had to laugh at the commentator who said something like: "It has surprised me to know that so many of this Australian side qualify for so many other countries. We heard that there isn't the depth in Australian rugby union as one would have thought."

Geez mate, give us a break. 25% of the Oz population were born overseas; so it would be extraordinary if the Oz team didn't reflect that demographic. All the lads playing in Cardiff were either born in Oz or came here with their families in their school days. To be fair: the bloke didn't know what he didn't know.

Commentator ??? This game was obviously broadcast in the UK. Since it wasn't listed in any TV guide for broadcast in Oz, and nor was a replay listed either, I thought that it wasn't on TV in the UK. Since it was: how come nobody over here may a bid for Oz rights? It wouldn't have cost an arm and a leg.

Maybe you lot should put up a petition and send the bright Mr ONeil a formal complaint. All this promises regarding Melbourne and they can even give the Aus rugby supporter a view of their national team playing overseas just seem to me as mind blogging. That I cant understand. Time to do something about this.

It's not an ARU decision PB - the decision not to show it was made by Oz broadcasters. They would have had to pay the producers of the show a fee to show it in Oz and obviously they didn't think there was a big enough market in Oz to justify the cost.

Although all the posters in this forum are true believers, we are a small percentage of the population. If Aussie Rules was an international sport like rugby is and the Australian Dingoes were playing a mid week game in Cardiff - don't you worry: it would be on TV here live. The TV market for Aussie Rules here is huge. The ferals can't get enough of it.

The thing I don't get is that there was no talk from the ARU about any efforts they were making to convince the TV channels to get the rights and show it. Even if they tried and were unsuccessful they could have got brownie points for making an effort and brownie points are usually things that JON doesn't miss out on.

first time seeing any footage in that clip. the boys looked good but taken with a grain of salt as it wasn't a full strength cardiff side. pek looked weak in that one scrum as mentioned before. i can see why they brought maafu on.

hopefully the young guys can build on this experience. maybe even show the older blokes how to run a backline maneuver :thumb

i also loved skinny sammy two-dads with the minor handbag on lachie after he tried to kick ahead for the try. what a wimp.

oh, and dick brown is still dumb as a bag of hammers. ::)

If you have any plans for Sunday, then stocking up on alochol may not be the best option, judging by the way the tour has gone.

Thanks Ash. The way I look at it, it's prudent to remove sharp objects from the viewing environment, so just leaving cans & bottles should work alright... may have to put a plexiglass cover in front of the TV thought! I think I read somewhere that Genia may be alright for the game, if thats the case then I reckon we should have Kingi on the bench.

Can't see this happening. Burgo showed more than enough to keep a bench spot.

I can't believe I missed this game. That's what I get for shunning all rugby websites for a few days. :angryfire:

Watched the game, and wow. I have never seen a referee who makes the game purely about himself. Wierd.

I think it was a gentleman's agreement - Cardiff wouldn't go for poles and the ref would keep the brakes on the WBs.

In case the ref's top left any doubt, he and the touchies were all taffs.

Both Deans and Mumm were pretty gobsmacked as you can hear in the podcast interview

Who was that referee? Like I'm not saying he did a bad job, I just think it was interesting. Very interesting, reminded me of a kind of Nigel Owens performance - likes to hear his voice, and likes to have people hear his voice.

This game, like the game against the Baabaas in London last year, show my why Deans is a top coach. Recall the tour Connolly led a few years ago - our midweekers were rotten. Deans is developing the young blokes very well.

Right, I didn't see this, but, from that one phrase - spiked, ridiculously over-gelled hair, looking like a poor man's Gavin Henson, yes?

James Jones. Twat of the first water.

Did you not see Matt Goddard in the S14 - "I won't let you slow down my ball"
