38-3 2nd half.
transcripts coming through of Chieka's halftime speech:
Chieka: Sons of Straya, I am Coach Chieka.
Young player: Coach Chieka is 7 feet tall.
Chieka: Yes, I've heard. Sells fabrics by the hundreds, and if he were here he'd chuck notebooks and smash commentary box windows. I AM Coach Chieka. And I see a whole army of my countrymen here in defiance of Rugby Championship wooden spoon tyranny. You have come to play rugby. What would you do without rugby? Will you fight?
Veteran player: Fight? Against that? No, we will fuck off to Toulon.
Chieka: They may take our pill, but they'll never take our freedom! Look, we're still in this fucken match you gutless pack of fucken dicks. First half, Folesy, Hodgesy and Kurtsey tackled like the three amigos of fetal alcohol syndrome but I still belieoooove in youse c**ts."
Kurtsey: the fuck you just call me c**t?
Lol racism

What a bizarro game, I don't know what to make of it.

All I can really say is that the Aussies did a lot better when they just boshed it up a couples times instead of just immediately going to decoys and pushing the ball wide. That and kicking the ball with some level of effectiveness. The altitude was insane, it made Foley look like Johnny Sexton out there.

That blocker move they've been doing all championship is just terrible. Earn the right to go wide, as they say.

Foley and Beale did well with the kicking.

Credit to the wobs for figuring out - and it was often Beale doing this and he deserves credit for this too- that getting the ball down the other end of the paddock was the way to go, especially after they had lost their 10 and consequently any ability to effectively exit their half.

Three of our tries came very soon after poorly executed Argie box kicks in their half.

Fucking notably, when you play in the oppo half you can turn the opposition's mistakes into points even when you still botch half your possessions with wild passes and other mistakes.

Honestly, if this group stuck to basic rugby principles - play in he oppo half, support the ball carrier and be first the breakdown - I firmly believe they could beat every other side regularly bar the ABs, even with the current coaches and all their flaws

Yep.The blocker plays only work if the black Coker is a decoy. The tight 5 in the seco half really pulled in defenders, opening things up out wide. It’s pretty basic stuff that we improved on. Also agree that an astute kicking game made a huge difference

Partly because we've had no convincing option running the block line. If Kerevi is steaming in on a hard unders line then suddenly the defence is more interested.

A great second half performance, but I am unconvinced by that performance as a sign of any kind of recovery. There were a LOT of pretty lucky plays in there, and the (very) occasional half performance out of a pretty dire series of performances over the last two years does not let the coaching staff or the players off the hook.

Fundamentals of the game still are not on display at any consistent level, and that needs to be addressed. Until it is the team will continue to slide.

Has anyone else noticed that 'Marto' has taken to openly criticizing the players - Beale for drops and Foley for his short punts - recently? You know things must be generally bad when Fox Sports goes off message.

Also notice that ARU staff member Rod Kafer quickly jumped to Foley's defence.

You'd need a real 10.

I thought Foley was great in the 2nd half, but I just rewatched all the tries from the Pumas, and two of them were directly from missed tackles from Foley. Like not tough tackles, he manages to get shoulder to hip each time. To'omua might not have set up those 2nd half tries, but I doubt he would've let in those first two that Foley did, putting the team under extreme pressure etc.

I'm going to repeat myself - what you want fr4om any player is the core duties to the role covered. For 10 (for me anyway) core duties are game management and playmaking. Did you note that D was not on that short list? Yes D in anyone, including a 10 is a good thing. Just not at the compromise of the core role.

And in the mean time who trackled well in the first half? 19 missed tackles at that point wasn't there?

I don't like Foley, but complaining about his D in that first half is kind of rubbish.

Indeed, Barrett, best player in all of space and time, can't tackle to save his life. Watch him get torn a new one by Dyantyi when hiding out on the wing against the Bokkies.

It's standard for a 10.the only 10 in the Championship who can defend, and is otherwise good at all his other roles, is Sanchez. He's good at just about everything.
