From the one-and-only Murray Mexted:

"Andy Ellis - the 21 year old, who turned 22 a few weeks ago"

"He scored that try after only 22 seconds - totally against the run of play."

"I would not say he (Rico Gear) is the best left winger in the Super 14, but there are none better."

"Well, either side could win it, or it could be a draw."

"Strangely, in slow motion replay, the ball seemed to hang in the air for even longer."

"I haven't had a knee operation on any other part of my body."

"Its all tied up at 14-13"

"Both sides are here to play rugby."

A Sky TV producer was conducting a sound test before the last Springbok test at Carisbrook. "Murray can you hear me?....Murray can you hear me?" Murray: "No."

"Well it still does it for me, the tingle up the spine, the tingle in the loins"

"And he kicks it with his left-handed foot"

Eleven minutes into the Wellington versus Canterbury game 2009 Murray announced "There's a lot to happen in this game yet"

And he runs his own Rugby Academy...I wonder public speaking is one of the classes...lol

Thanks for posting those Mexted comments and leaving out the one something like: "There's nothing a back likes more than a flanker coming up his back side." Kiddies may have read it.

I've seen that list before and thought I wouldn't laugh at them again - but I did - at one after the other. Thanks again for posting it.

Mex is a legend. End of.

I couldn't find the quote but there was one Test where he made the comment that "such-and such (I can't remember the name) would be turning in his grave if he saw that."

There was a pause before one of the other commentators said, "He's not dead Murray."

Absolute legend.....an idiot but a legend...lol

Felt obliged to add this old gem from the true masters...

The whips are cracking, the surf’s up, the doctor is in. It’s just another afternoon when too much sport is barely enough. And now here’s the team who can open the batting and take the new ball up the hill into the wind, who can turn defence into attack in the twinkling of an eye. Who’ve enjoyed the highs and learnt from the lows, who are all the better for recent racing, and in the wash-up at the end of the day win a lot more than they lose – it’s the team of H.G. Nelson and rampaging Roy Slaven, with the dominant backline of this sporting life.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who misses sunday arvos on the J's

Greatest sports intro ever. I miss hearing those guys on JJJ. Their origin and GF coverage is the best sports casting you'll hear in your life.

And then after the intro HG would go into a 5 minute rant covering everything that had happened during the week, seemingly without taking a breath. Champagne comedy! (to mix my Australian comic geniuses)

The mock tirades are the best. I played their Olympics coverage for some American and Canadian friends a few years ago and they just about wet themselves. Comedy. Gold.

Just listening to their latest podcast on the Triple M website: Roy and HG say the New Zealanders are "old and stupid", with HG saying "never over estimate the brightness of a New Zealander".
