Why NZ can't win the World Cup

If NZ make the final they'll win, Their biggest hurdle will come from the Springboks.

A lot of the Boks are passed their peak but when you look back at most old champions they usually have one more big game in them before they move on & if the Boks can get to the semis without having a real fight on the way I think they can lift for the semi.

This world cup has been set up for a Kiwi victory with McCaw as the untouchable captain Paddy O'Brien as the chief of refs & the IRB willing to bend the laws at any given time the Kiwis feel they've been hard done by (Re: Keven "the christian saint" Mealamu).

Yeah, the boks in a potential semi will be incredibly hard to beat, the have a perfect game for a tight, knock out style match - big forwards and low risk, forward orientated game plan that relys on pressurising opponents into mistakes, good kicking game - tactically and for points, huge scrambling defence and the bokke mentality

Almost tailored made for the business end of a world cup. Imagine losing to the boks in Auckland in a semi - that is some scarey shit!!

What a load of bullshit. McCaw was the captain in 2007 and Paddy was the Chief of refs. Still didn't stop the ABs getting knocked out in the quarters with some of the most questionable officiating seen in a RWC.

And Mealamu is the closest thing you'll ever see to sainthood when it comes to rugby forwards.

How is Read's ref management? He's probably picked up what to do, playing with one of the best (McCaw) but it is a skill that is very difficult to hone for some players. Being polite off field doesn't always equate to being a good ref manager; George Smith's a great bloke off field but he clashed with some of the ref's while he was Wallaby captain.
Probably will see more of it in the Saders this year, with McCaw being rested a fair bit? It's definitely something that comes with experience and patience.

Paddy hates NZ, when are people going to see that having him as Ref boss is actually detrimental? Fucking albatross, that guy.

That's why Paddy has ramped it up since 2007. The public apologies which no other nation has ever received the sacking of Stu Dickenson after the Italian game the down grading of Keven Mealamu headbutt the very limited yellow cards shown to a team which are internationally re-noun for infringing inside their own 22.

Jesus we have had the POB discussion so many times, can we cut it short just this once? I know its the off-season, but I am sure we can find something better to talk about.

Back to that point about experience. It scares me slightly. Actually it scares me a lot. There are so many wise heads in this AB team, all over the park. Surely they won't choke again. That doesn't mean they won't get beaten, but I can't see them falling to a weaker opponent in a shithouse display.

Experience, not leadership.

I'd take Bam man over 13 of those All Blacks in terms of leadership

Re-noun??? Are you internationally re-naming something????

Paddy publicly supported Barnes after his RWC disgrace and he is now probably in the top 5 or so refs in the world. Funny way to 'ramp it up.'

The yellow cards don't come out as the All Blacks and it's players aren't as renown for dirty behaviour as those who do get yellows.

And I'll stand by my statement that Mealamu is as close to sainthood as you're gonna find in any forward pack. BTW - the AB camp successfully showed to the judicary (which I believe has nothing to do with Paddy) that Kev made contact with the shoulder first. It wasn't disputed that it was reckless - they disputed that it was intentional and given Kevin's pretty clean record for a career of his length it was accepted.

If you want to talk about poor judicary decisions, how about the two blatant headshots on McCaw on the EOYT that escaped not only any penalty but also any citing.

But of course Paddy O'Brien is the reason the ABs lost just one game last year....

Sorry....this was posted while I was writing my reply.

While I hope they don't fall to a 'lesser' opponent, this kiwi is still too emotionally scarred by previous World Cups to start calling the ABs champs yet. ;)

If Ali Williams comes back fit and close to the form he was at 2 yrs ago, then there's another 'leader' in the squad. It's a pretty big IF at this stage but for the Blues and the ABs sake, I hope he does it.

And if only Hayman had come back too.....**sigh**

When did Conrad Smith last get a yellow card? He's the backline king of infringing in his own 22.

How did he not get a yellow card in Sydney after the most blatant flop & then playing the ball on the ground less than 1 metre from his own line, Matt giteau does the flop in twickers he get's a straight yellow no warning .
