any former player (Kearns, Marto, Horan, Jeremy Paul, Kafe) is my answer while calling a game, but when it is just comments then I dont mind Kafe, he seems to be able to put his knowledge into words that explain his point well.

I was always impressed with Matt Burke in media appearances and think that Adam Frier has a lot to offer.

the head guy from SA - sorry cant start with the oz guys: this bloke is appallingly biased

SA have a few different guys calling. Hugh Bladen? Warren Brosnihan.

All commentators are biased.

Phil Kearns is agonizingly poker yourself in the eye with a blunt object bad to listen to. Outwhines a five year old when the Wallabies are losing.

Nisbet is the most biased I reckon. Downright rude at times.

Toss up for me between those two.

Fuck me, have we not had this thread before? Or a thread derailed into this before?
Whatever, have at it.
It'll go like this:-
"Kearns and Marto are just cheerleading ass-clowns, and Clarkieeeeee gives me the shits"
"What about bloody Nisbo whining all the time and TJ with all his bias, and Mexted being a buffoon who doesn't know the rules"
'Who's that bloody Saffa, he shits me, but the other one's OK"
"Can't stand fucking Brian Moore, so bloody biased about the Poms"

Stu Wilson by a farking country mile.....! Although Gordon Bray is good, I don't like him as he give me deja vu of a very bad period of Bledisloe domination by the Aussies...

Going to go against the grain and say I reckon everybody else is pretty good in their own unique way.

Marto = tabloid popularist nonsense.
Kearns = not far behind Marto. reinforce stereotypes.

Don't know why/how Kafe puts up with them. Despite being a ex-Brumby, he has a smart rugby brain on him, and good communication skills.

Marto and Kearns are like a couple of old drunken club stalwarts over in the corner of the club, pissed out of their minds by 6pm on presentation night, recounting how awesome it was to use a slide rule in the olden days, and how the young kids nowdays just don't know what it was like. Hello, we use excel spreadsheets and databases, and don't care about how you make fire and feed a family of 7 kids from two sticks, a piece of chewing gum, 2 metres of waxed dental floss, a 100 gm can of tuna in brine, a pillow case, and 600 gms of Bega cheese.

Patto.

All the pricks that mention mungo heritage even if it was of no import on the players development. Christ , more than 100 Wallabies not to mention state and club players went to the darkside and mungo callers went to great lengths never to mention it.

Justin Marshall when he complains about the ref.

Ours are horrible at times.

I wish we had anyone half as good as Marshall. He's going to be a great caller. Unbiased and supremely knowledgeable.

It's a bonus that he also knows so many test and Super rugby players well and can comment on their playing style and attitude as well.

Any one who whinges about refs' decisions- so that's most of them.

the late great Bill McClaren never did. The closest he ever gets is the '78 Haden and Oliver incident. from memory he said it was unusual and may later have said controversial.

Hate Eddie Butler but he leaves the refs alone. the double act with Brian Moore works

Agree whole-heartedly here. Always thought Marshall was a good player, but never liked him much and he seemed to love himself with the dyed blonde hair well into his 30's etc. But have been pleasantly surprised by how articulate he is in his commentary as well as in his articles on stuff.co.nz. His comments are insightful and he seems to call the game as a rugby fan when commentating, rather than a fan of one of the teams playing. There is nothing more frustrating than commentators who have nothing but praise for their team when they are winning or criticism when they are losing - hardly taking into account that there are actually two teams playing the game!

anyone on fox makes me cringe. i can't stand any of them except kafe. i also agree on the head SA commentator, his is cringeworthy. If there is lot i have time for it's the bbc or a justin marshall/grant fox duo.

From a nz perspective I really miss Drake...

Aaron Mauger was the pick of the NPC expert comments men. Scott 'Sumo' Stevenson is our most animated play by play commentator and a breath of fresh air from Nisbett, Johnson and Ian Jones who grate considerably.

Grant Nisbett. At times his inability to pronounce player names is straight up disrespectful (que joke about rispuct).

Is it so hard to ask advice on how to pronounce Harinordoquy?
