Following on from the Wallaby announcement thread, and the article Blue posted stating that Rocky may not play a game of Super Rugby this year, if Rocky didn't, could he be fit in time to play the Bledisloe and 3N?

And secondly, if he wasn't fit, who would you want to see captain the Wallabies?

I would like to see Sharpe in the roll, he has the experience and will be picked in the run on team.

That's actually a more difficult choice than I thought it would be. I like Horwill for his recent leadership of the reds, but I think for the longer term, Pocock is the man for the job. Sharpie only has a year or so left in him, while Stirlo is unlikely to be in the mix unless he magically discovers a bit more pace during the season.

I don't really think Stirling will even be in the squad, and doubt Giteau will make the run on team, but wanted to include them to give people a choice.

Last time we had a lock captain us to the WC it went pretty well.

Nathan Sharpe has been a standout captain for the Force. You look at the average quality of their roster and the horrible luck with injuries they've had over the last two years, and yet the side has continued to play with spirit and produces close to its best every week. He's a guy who knows how to nurture young professionals.

Just what the Wallabies need really.

I think it bodes well that we have probably 4 leading candidates in Sharpe, Horwill, Genia and Pocock. All (if fit) definite selections for the Wallabies. Its a fantastic leadership group that, in my eyes, would seem to be able to work well with each other. Can't say I see that in some of the other leadership options.

Throw in the likes of TPN, Moore and Barnes (he'd be in my team probably) and that's a very strong leadership contingent.

I went with Horwill, but would be equally happy with Sharpie. Since joining the Force, I think Sharpe's leadership skills have taken a huge turn for the better. The responsibility has made him a better player, as opposed to the hot and cold guy he was before.

The problem with Horwill is that he's very rarely fit for the Wallabies. You need someone who will consistently be on the pitch. Otherwise he'd be an excellent captain.

Completely agree with Sharpie, absolute workhorse and committed to the Wallabies. I don't mind Rocky as captain but to me he seems like a bit of a rugby whore and would probably bugger off back to Europe sooner rather than later.
Seems to be a big vote for Bam Bam as well but I'd like to see him play without the responsibility for a few more years and let him master his craft.

Sharpie is what is good and right about our great game and for that..............................man crush

I'd prefer Sharpe even if Elsom is fit. Rocky improved over the course of last year, but he started from a shockingly low base and only by the end of the EOYT did he really move even close to having a positive impact as captain.

I voted for Sharpie, primarily because it is a world cup year and not a great time to experiment with your national captain. Given the same question in a non- world cup year I would vote for Genia. He has a natural leadership style the Wallabies are desperately seeking.

I voted for Genia, I believe when Vickerman comes back Sharpe's spot in the starting team will be threatened. The locks could quite well be Vickers and Horwill. And dont forget the ARU weren't going to re-sign Sharpe to a central contract this year but bowed to a lot of pressure to do so.

I voted Genia. Captaincy brings out the best in him, I love his quick taps that he usually takes with about 80% sucess, he hasn't done it so much this year, because he doesn't feel comfortable because he's not the captain. Horwill's going to struggle to even make the starting team. However, I would be equally happy with Sharpe. I don't think Pocock should be, not just yet anyways.

I hope this doesn't get interpreted the wrong way(ie parochial queensland crap).. but isnt it a little bit strange that the current Captain and all the top contenders are Queenslanders

Elsom
Horwill
Sharpe
Genia
Pocock

and then throw in Barnes and Moore as well.
