Who will be first to go ?

Obviously, Wallaby success will be the "chewing gum" that holds them together.

But what happens and when if success does not eventuate

i think oneil is the more likely, i dont think deans would try to coach past the next world cup, will be interesting to see if he stays on in australia after that, my guess is he willbe gone when the clock strikes midnight after the world cup.

oneil surely will decide if he comes or goes, if we get the soccer world cup here though i wouldnt be surprised if he chooses to do the events management for nsw over rugby though.

What if we won it? Would Robbie bugger off then? If we lose, I agree he'll go, but where?

I think the Lions series will be an inducement to all of them, particularly Deans. Its a once in a generation thing for coaches and players.

There is a international market for quality coaches like Deans, and whilst there is a international market for 'events managment' and corporate figures like JON, each country and region is vastly different meaning his expertise wont transfer so easily.

If anything JON will retire to the corporate world away from sport organisations, but i think before he leaves we will see a much needed overhaul of the ARU constitution and makeup of rugby in Australia. His been remarkably quiet in recent months, amazingly out of character for himself, but if rumours were to be proven fruitfell, then the next 24months will see a complete makeover of rugby in Australia.

NSW and QLD to receive a injection of private equity, ARU to have a complete overhaul of its constituion and board, NSW and QLD to have reduced power whilst states like SA and VIC receive more power. Its a matter of dominoes really, they have to be careful in the order that they perform thigs to make sure there is no interntal revolts.

JON has been quiet because he is also chairman of events NSW, and he supported the soccer world cup and put forward sydney being the host city, the NRL and AFL got stuck into him as it affects there seasons but not rugbys and as such shows a conflict of interest, they were calling on his resignation so he has gone into hiding a bit due to it.

He will pop up again in the new year when rugby gets rolling, there isnt really much for him to talk about at the moment otherwise.

Well, I for one was disappointed he didn't have a crack at Copenhagen, and how global warming is a NH conspiracy!

Agreed.

The Lions is such a massive rugby event but if Deans doesn't bring home bill I can't see him staying on.

Has any SH player ever taken part in 2 Lions series?

Prediction of the year, David Pocock will captain the Wallabies in that Lions series.

Horan would be the closest I expect? From and Aussie perspective I guess. Sat on the bench in 89, but injured in 00. So actually no where near close.

no way pocock is captain at any stage of his career.
rocky, giteau and barnes will likely still be here for the lions, then on top of that i think benn & mumm would be ahead of pocock.

I'm interested in why you think Pocock is no chance, WJ? Not having a go at your opinion, just interested in why you have it? Is it the Zimbot background? Is he just not skipper material?
To me, he seems to tick some boxes - likely to be an automatic pick by then, seems to be there for a while, seems relatively non injury-prone so far, is a backrower, leads by example kind of guy. He'll probably sound fully Aussie by then too! ;)

I was trying to keep an open mind - I realise that is odd behaviour on an internet forum! :lmao:
Also, he could move east by then. ;)

so he should resign, its a increidble conflict of interests

Also, JON isnt the kind of person to wait for headlines to appear, he is more then happy to actually make the headlines, some of his best work(PR) has been done in the off-season

the fact he has hasnt led his super side (unless im wrong) lets face it the lions are four years out, if we have a half decent world cup showing there isnt going to be great change in the wallaby team and the age of most of them means they will target the lions tour as there final, the call was he believed pocock would be captain by the lions tour, i dont think he will because i believe other players are in front of him and still will be, by the time pocock looks like he would be captain if you factor in retirements from age not injury/pissing off to europe he would be to old to give any long term service and i believe a captain should give 4/5 years at least. Pocock like waugh and to a lesser extent smith before him will slow down at some stage, the more he plays the faster that may be, he isnt exactly free of contact in his style and against bigger teams he is likely to be subbed for impact a few times.

but i guess it must be bias if i mentioned two tahs players, 1 that captained his country during the mid week games and is improving with every season and another who was probably the best wallaby of the year by a mile. Then again, could just be an opinion that you read into!

It's about NSW's turn, isn't it? Long time since a Tah was "permanent captain" of the Wallabies. Phil Kearns?

:thumb I reckon Pocock would be a great captain. Genia's demeanour is also impressive as well. As for NSW, TPN ?? If he got his throwing accuracy up by 10-15-20%, Moore wouldn't get a run.

From the Tahs, I reckon TipTop and the Orc would make good Wallaby captains. But they're not in the First XV, which makes it difficult. I'm not sold on Barnes being captain. Just a touch too sooky.
