Where to for Twiggy Rugby?

SRU is just a sub-union of NSWRU that runs club rugby. It isn't a competing organisation. If a team became part of WSR it would presumably be separate to any affiliation with SRU.

I think NSWRU and RA would entirely welcome funding for a team in western Sydney to join WSR or for Penrith to be re-capitalised so it can rejoin the Shute Shield.

The problem NSWRU has had growing rugby in the west is a lack of volunteer infrastructure that is needed to make clubs a success. It is no secret that grassroots rugby works on the back of countless hours of time given by volunteers. Areas where rugby is strongest have the most volunteers which also makes it very hard to grow new areas because you don't have that volunteer base. If you had the money it would be pretty easy to achieve by just employing all the people you need but sadly that has never been the reality.

I agree completely. It needs a big injection of money to replace what other areas have grown organically over long periods of time.

Plenty of good players come from the west but part of the problem is that they then get poached by the more developed clubs. That also erodes the volunteer base because you're less likely to stay involved if your kid now plays elsewhere.

I think we all know SRU is not competing organisation but as we know SRU have raised concerns of WSR raiding SRU players...which my point is that in this instance in their own backyard probably less threatening as provides pathway for SRU players without leaving Sydney!

Very interesting times indeed. I said it about 4 months ago here; Western Sydney will be pulling bigger crowds than the Tahs next year.

There's a stadium not 10 minutes up the road from me that's free pretty much all year. It only has 4 NRL a year and has a train station only 100m from the gates. Campbelltown Stadium.

The idea of a WSR team playing out of Western Sydney just seems the most logical thing that has been raised on this site that seems to be agreed after 1 page of discussion on here without much conjecture...yet the 600+ pages of where to for super rugby still has not got an answer...

I don't think it's a good idea to look at more than 2 home stadiums for any team, particularly in the early days of the comp. Better to focus on building the fan base and match day experience at the best 1 or 2 places.

Wow watching delayed broadcast of game against PWK on 7mate now and just listened to Twiggy's half time interview.

Gees he was ripping into RA so it seems things not going so well there and general media is actually on the money.

Very vocal about entering side in Western Sydney but equally vocal about how Western Sydney like the Force been shafted by RA and poor leadership etc. Gees first time got really clear messages that Twiggy and RA are at complete odds. That saddens me.

By the way enjoying the game against PWK....PWK clearly good lock in for next years WSR as they off the attacking flair of Japanese rugby but equally at the right level to make for uncertainty of outcome.

Yeh to truly create good fanbase in the west something like West Tigers approach where they play a couple of games per season at Leichardt oval but play most of their home games elsewhere (can't remember where as not a big league fan).

So something like most of their home games at Paramatta stadium with 3/4 home games also at Concord / Leichardt oval would work I reckon. In other words I agree with the 2 stadium approach for home games where balance skewed heavily towards West but allowing some games in inner west.

I hope they leave the Kiwis out of WSR, Perth has shown we can get crowds in, even with the horrible weather, without resorting to making a grab for the Perth Kiwis short-term crowd boosts. It'll be good for the Perth team's support base in the long-term.

Yep would agree that long term a wsr team in the hunter region could work ie with twiggy style investment behind it.

If Twiggy does set up in Sydney

1. Really, really hope he has ensured the blessing of SRU. Otherwise there is at least one entrenched issue that transcends RA-Twigg
2. No, no, no NOT multiple homegrounds. Find a spot make it a fortress.
3. I joined Twigg’s Force and can’t get there, so even if the homeground is Cambletown reckon I might make a few home games.
