That's a fairly late start compared to Super Rugby previously.

Interesting only a top two final, i actually liked the system that Australia had this year with the top 3, gives another high rating match and gives the leading team the week off before the GF.

It's probably a top two finals series to allow for the trans-tasman comp, i imagine theyll have a week or two break following the GF and then kick off into the TT comp. If they had a 2 week final series and then a 2 week brak, then there would be a risk that some teams might not play for up to 5 weeks.

A May final gives room for a 6 week, 26 game trans-tasman tournament to be played prior to the July Test matches(if they take place)

Feb - May: Domestic Super Rugby
May - Jul: Trans-Tasman Tournament
Jul-Aug: Inbound test series
Sep-Oct: Rugby Champinship

^ I haven't "done the math" but for AB to be available from week one (which they will be) there has to be a ten-week break between Tri-Nations & whatever form SRAo pre-season takes. Mid-December to late-February would appear to meet that requirement.

Yep but in a 5 team comp where you have played each other twice, I said it early this year and still think you don't really need or want a 3rd place team in finals, surely you have to be at least in top half of any comp to play final. I think it gives final integrity.

Yep eaxactly, and why I was saying if Ofa ends up with same stand down as Swinton it really only a 2 week one, as they won't be playing preseason.

Yep you probably, we know they have agreed on format as 9 was waiting for that to agree to tv deal, just maybe it was just setting dates, doesn't matter if there a week or so difference.

We should be expecting a later start shouldn't we given we're going from a 16 game regular season over 19 weeks to an 8 game regular season over 10 weeks.

So you're thinking the Trans Tasman tournament is all 10 teams playing the opposing 5 teams over 5 weeks and then the top two teams playing finals? I would have guessed that it would be the top 2 or 3 from each comp playing a few games plus a final so a much smaller comp overall.

The 2020 July series was scheduled for 4/11/18 July and I would guess 2021 will be very similar in terms of timing. On that basis I would say the last Trans Tasman game would be on 19 June 2021 at the latest leaving a two week gap before test rugby starts.

The NSW Waratahs have just announced their schedule for next year. Looks like a Super Au compeition that mirrors the same schedule as Aoteaora.

Kicking off on the 19th Feb (one week earlier than Super Aotearoa) with 8 matches home and away round robin with the last round robin match on the 24th April.

Looks like there will be a cross over competition with NZ thereafter (my speculation).

Saturday Night Televised Games
Red - 5
Waratahs - 4
Brumbies - 4
Rebels - 3
Force - 2

The Tahs and Reds will also be telecast on 9 on the Friday in Week 1

As a Force supporter it sucks that there are only two Sat games telecast, however to be fair the time frames would make no sense to broadcast live on a Saturday for away games with the likely kickoff time of 7pm being 4pm AWT at the start of the season and then 5pm AWT later. Our Premier Rugby games finish around 5:15pm so a large number of fans would be still out at the local grounds, plus in WA nine probably dont want to go up agaist the Saturday night AFL broadcast.

As a Rebels fan I'm pissed off, don't have a home game till round 3. Someone has to have a bye round 1, fine. But to than be away from home round 2 after the sacrifices made this year is BS. Also finish with 2 away games.

Actually don't think I will be signing up as a member, we have two games in the first week of the Easter school holidays when I'm away camping.

In the original 2020 draw Reds didn’t get a home game until Round 4. It’s gonna happen some years. But I feel your pain

Yeah but we didn't get one at all, now we are made to wait longer than anyone else.

I get the Rd 1 Fixture, don't like it but understand it's a good way to launch the comp. Rebels should have been allocated a home game rd 2.

From memory you also said the Kiwi Super Rugby doesn’t need a final and said you thought the kiwi system this year was better then having a final series

Yep, i believe it will be a 10 week tournament with each team playing each other twice and a GF. There’s no point making it a top 2 or 3, it will harm the finances of those who dont participate, and not to mention it will be difficult to plan for without knowing which teams are going to participate until May

Top 2 from each over three weekends. Each team plays the other with top two to play a final? i guess the risk with this is an all NZ final (or Aus final in some theoretical contingency).

They're going to have at most about six weeks to play whatever the Trans Tasman crossover bit.

I don't expect it will include all the teams.

I'd bet on each Australian team playing each NZ team once (so 5 games for all teams), with the top Kiwi team playing the top Australian team again in the final. Or possibly no final.
