Revised domestic Super comp on hold at least until 1 May. I suspect it will be next year before we see much rugby again.

All super teams to suspend training for 2 weeks and then resume with a modified regime. Anyone know what this is about? Perhaps 2 weeks to establish if any players have the virus, and then no contact training afterwards?

They probably look to move it into the 2nd half of the year if it is possible. Sometime after Sept.

This situation is obviously horrendous for the game financially. However in a strange way we are in a better position than the NRL in many ways.

Yes they have more money to lean on but they also have 16 clubs to take care of, we only have 4. If they receive $0 for television rights and no stadium revenue they will have to prop up that many clubs all which have larger pay rolls than our situation, hence why they are desperately trying to play fixtures. Our balance sheets per club are strangely in a better situation because of the reduced costs, just about every NSW based team runs at a loss and is massively propped up by their leagues clubs, which will be currently hemorrhaging money and most likely wouldn’t be able to prop some clubs up at seasons end. We also have World Rugby which just made a huge profit from the World Cup, id say it’s very likely that they will offer financial assistance to all major unions during this time, just like they do during World Cup years. It will obviously mean money taken from the smaller unions and take away funds that are supposed to be used to grow the game but the financial viability of the larger unions in the short term would be more important. The other thing would be that we actually got through a couple of matches, the earlier start to the year has strangely made this possible to complete 1/3 of our domestic season. Our money makers are the 6 tests which could feasibly be conducted towards the end of the year if things do improve. Playing Ireland also means we have a team that runs it’s own domestic teams so would be able to pull players out of club comps to fulfill international fixtures if required.

Just trying to look at any damage limitation to soften the blow.

Ireland have abandoned all Rugby for current season. They were at the pointy end of the All Ireland Club season with only 3 or 4 matches to go, then finals.

Assume they will get going for the 2021 season in September if this thing starts to settle down

Time to put in place a new financially sustainable model for the Super rugby franchises: Each franchise has a squad of 35 players. They are paid a base salary, say $80,000 each which is funded from RA. They can increase their salary by increasing club memberships, match attendances and sales of gear. Then the players will have an interest in winning and in bonding with their audience. Like wise, wallaby players get a base appearance fee, but for each successful tackle, pass, catch, try and win this goes up.

Son who normally in Italy, his family over there are absolutely gobsmacked that

b; that the gov't has seems to of lost it balls and told them to stop!!

Go for that as a base salary with match fee's on top but varied depending on win/loss. Say $5000 for a win and $2500. So at a minimum the squad of 35 would earn a minimum $112k each assuming it goes to 13 games if they lose all of their games and $145k if they win every game. So they'll earn somewhere in that range. Pretty fair in my opinion. For the Wallabies just straight up match fee's with a win bonus. No top ups just match fee's.

Read this morning that NRL are hanging in there as their next rights payment from Foxtel is due on 1 April & they need to be still playing in order to get it. Incredibly selfish if true.

EDIT: as for A-League apparently they're looking to suspend it unless the six clubs not based in NSW agree to relocate to NSW for the remainder of the season (something Wellington Phoenix have already done). Can't see that working.

They now have to deal with Queensland closing its borders so not sure how they are going to get around that.

Warriors have relocated to just across the NSW border & will play "home" games on the GC. Plan is for them to travel by chartered bus & have no public contact whatsoever. I guess NRL believe Storm, Cowboys, Broncos & Titans could do similarly. Not sure if ACT counts as part of NSW border closure-wise?

But, yeah, someone really needs to tell V'landys & Greenberg "it's over, mate".

EDIT: story on CGW just now says NRL are looking at a two-conference format, one being the 10 Sydney Clubs, the other the six non-Sydney Clubs who would all base themselves in Queensland for however long it lasts.

Yeah you'd have to think that all winter sports are goneski for the whole of 2020, unless there is a significant turnaround. Even then I wouldn't be taking any chances if I were a state premier.
