Ok, considering the empasse the ARU are in, I think the best solution at this point in time is to can the Tards.

It's going to destroy the ARU if they try and cut either the Rebels or Force at this point. Brumbies are our best team now and historically. Reds are the largest playing area, traditional stronghold of the game, and when QLD is strong so are the Wallabies.

The Tards are the logical choice. Perennial under achievers, a sink-hole for promising young talent. They breed lazy, entitled players who are accustomed to defeat, not hungry and desperate champions. The money wasted on them being eternal mid table cannon fodder could be better spent hiring two top-notch coaches for the Reds and Rebels, and some of the talent that hasn't been quashed out of a select few players there could be well used at other clubs.

Give the Tards a few years away to sort their admin and culture out, make them feel like they actually need to put effort in rather than worrying about their hair. At the same time, we can hire administrators/coaches from other states who actually know what they're doing to take over the ARU for a few years and rebuild it.

Bar anyone from NSW to have any part in it unless they can prove their competence. Quarantine the state off until they can present a solid case for re-inclusion in Super Rugby.

In 3 years time, when Aus and NZ shitcan the Jaapies and set up our own comp, NSW can re-apply.

Great post.

That'd also strengthen the Shute, probably (ok, probably not), and then we'd really find out if it was a potential basis for a national comp.

Latest article onTwiggy support for Force. States he called Clyne last Friday and publicly saying if ARU want to remove the Force have to go through him first. Developing serious man crush on Twiggy as man of his profile and standing given huge public boost and support for the Force and rugby in WA. As rugby in such dire states profile wise and financially this is the one shining light emerging at this point.

Now if we can only find another few enthusiastic and passionate billionaires with high profiles to support rugby. Pity James Packer supports league which is disappointing given he went to a Rugby school (Cranbrook), come on James it is not too late!:p

Twiggy might yet be up for an Order of Australia for services to rugby at this rate (for saving the game....or at least saving the game in WA!)

The Tahs average results are a direct result of NSW philanthropy by allowing the ARU to spend money expanding the game into far flung places and by developing the additional talent to fill those teams ;)

Surprised your post didn't finish with
'sent from my Nokia 6010' which was released in Australia in the year the Brumbies last won Super Rugby.

Be interesting to see what sort of flow on effect crowd wise might see for Perth Spirit home games when NRC starts up with this TF and Own the Force blitzkrieg. As Perth spirit crowds been pretty terrible in years past.....to my mind that would be test for whether this has impact on increasing public support to my mind.

Honest question: if they don't cut a team, does it become cheaper to pull out of Super Rugby and run our own domestic comp?

^ Isn't that the 64 million dollar question. If they can't cut without major shitfight, what happens.

Major. Ha. As opposed to the Minor one that's happening now.

well one major step forward to attempting to arrive at positive solution for Aus Rugby will be that Clyne won't be there.

I think you would find the crowds not too bad in relation to the other teams. Feel free to prove me wrong though.

I genuinely can't see how this pans out.

The ARU have seemingly screwed the pooch. If Force and Rebels are binding, then we're stuck with 5 teams. That doesn't mean shit to SANZAAR who are set to go with a 15 team comp, as negotiated with the ARU.

So the ARU don't have grounds to come back and say "hey guys, we're sticking with 5". In fact I'd suggest SANZAAR could sue for breach of contract?

Then if we say, "well we are pulling out and doing our own thing" then they'd do the same and the broadcasters could well back them. As could every other team currently signing players and sponsors etc.

The longer it goes, the only outcome I see as feasible is that the ARU is wound up and World Rugby, along with the Fed Govt/ Australian Sports Commission establish a new entity (Rugby Australia for want of a name - and one that would piss off the leaguies!).

Then we start this whole thing again....well hopefully not, but we rebuild. Appropriately.

They would have to be complete and utter morons not to have a plan B in case of hahaha nah I can't finish that sentence

Memo from the ARU back in April:

Plan A: Cut the Force in 48-72 Hours
Plan B: Buy the Rebels back from Cox
Plan C: Cut the Brumbies, no body will care

Notes on the memo now,

Plan A: Who forgot to read the bloody contract? Damn what do we do now?

Plan B: I thought you said he would have a price, obviously his a kiwi Trojan horse that just F@cked us royally.

Plan C: We already told everyone they are safe, how we going to do this now.
