What is such a coup aiming to achieve?

We actually need a revolution rather than a coup d'etat.

Unlike a revolution, which is usually achieved by large numbers of people working for basic social, economic, and political change, a coup is a change in power from the top that merely results in the abrupt replacement of leading personnel.

It's been stated he will not sell the franchise if it meant them being wound up. He might have a price but it won't be at the rebels expense.

^^^ This ^^^

Bear in mind that Coxy already has a partner - Peter Sidwell. Not sure the exact percentage split, but Figure Coxy has at least 51%.

Throughout this whole saga, he's been on the sidelines, perhaps letting Coxy take the fight to the ARU. Interested to hear his views.

The concept of additional consortia could be a lot of things; Peter (or Coxy) looking to divest his interest, more people wishing to invest in the Rebels in the knowledge they're sticking around, just to sure up those barriers to exit. Perhaps those four blokes who were looking to invest in the Force are this so-called consortium?

Or, Coxy is just looking for the price, so he knows how much to sue the ARU for?

He isn't a silly busineesman; he's looking at ALL his options and will have all the information right in front of him. Still, I don't think he's planning to sell, but all options available.

Feels nice to wear the tin hat after a few tins...

"Rugby greats call for crisis summit as code lurches into abyss"

(Just Google the headline above if you can't access the link below.)

The fear I have with past players and coaches in Australian rugby is that unlike many others they are self interested. The perception of a good season is not only seeing your franchise do well but your rival being in the dumpsters e.g. Nsw and qld. A lot are also systematically invested in their 'school' and or club. Many would preference the health of their school/club/franchise than the health of the game. We just need an independent body that looks at the game through green and gold eyes and not blue, red/maroon, etc.

If the right mix could be found then I think something like this would be great

The bit that most pricked my ears is 'other consortiums'. Other people are willing to buy into this shitfight???
Why not? Can you imagine if the consortium is the "force 4" and they acquire the Rebels, then they can choose who stay and who goes.

But the even better twist then would be then they can simply say all or nothing! So, 2 go or 2 stay. And it’s a good way to hedge their bets come 2019 when the SANZAAR cluster machine V2.0 fires back up and we do this dance again with what do we do from 2020 (especially considering the head of the SARU want to cut it back to 12!).

Oh, and think of the voting block they could have at the ARU shindigs! That would tread on some toes and hurt some feelings and egos.

The "force4" by then could get loved up with Foxtel and be well on the way to a proper domestic competition using the 2 franchises, the NRC teams, their 20's and friends (can you imagine if Cox and Co stepped back in at this point!) as its most likely a money spinner and would provide security going forward so the temptation to the other Super Rugby franchises (and Unions) would be hard to resist.

Super Rugby in some other form would (Champions cup style or something?) still be worth it to supplement the incomes, keep a foot in other markets and keep the RC, and Bled cup etc going.

How weird would it be for Aussie rugby to be masters of their own destiny for once and able to financially supports itself.

Thanks for the tip oztimmay- the beers and tinhat combo really is fun! :D

Actually, and this is just an aside, Cox is the sole owner of Imperium Sports Management, and Sidwell is merely on the advisory board, he does not have any actual ownership - according to ASIC records.

At last, the dam of overly protective, excuse-making, pussy-footed, lilly-livered Australian rugby opinion-makers is breaking..............

B Cannon openly calls for Pulver to resign (and by inference most of the ARU board) immediately, and says it rather well:

Headline: "The ARU executives are responsible for the biggest crisis in the code’s history and they must face the music"

With all that has come out in the last month, confirming the total incompetence of the ARU management, I'm surprised a petitition has not been organised, demanding the resignation of the CEO and/or Board.

I would be surprised if it didn't attract signatories in excess of a Tahs home ground (yep even an 'official' crowd:))

The people currently running rugby on the ARU and NSWRU (and most likely the QRU) are just as much into "self-interest" as any past players and coaches.

The difference perhaps being tht, as you say, players and coaches are interesting in their old team winning.

The problem with the self-interest of those running the code is that their self-interest involves maintaining their own position vis-a-vis the corporate world, expanding their network and going to lots of important meetings.

I'd actually prefer a bit more of the self-interest from the guys wanting their team to win and a bit less of the self-interest from the corporate hacks and private school old-boys.

As former NSW Premier Jack Lang once famously said:

Always back the horse named self-interest, son. It'll be the only one trying.

No wonder the crowds are poor at the Waratahs / Super Games games?

Ticket prices!

Just went on to look at buying tickets for tonights game with my 16yr old daughter, if you don't want to sit on the try line your looking at $160! for the 2 of us.

FFS to watch the sh*t they have been playing for the last few months.

Together with sh*t food, bullsh*t drinks prices and 1 game of footy and I get to watch the players warm up as pre game entertainment. No wonder the game is up sh*t street.

Australian rugby has no clue.

Bugger me. If things were not so desperate I would be enjoying all this immensely.

Bunches of blind men thrashing around in the dark trying to achieve a goal which, even if they could agree what it is, is beyond their bloody reach.

I had forgotten that the big decision by the last crisis meeting was the ARC. Great idea at the time, some of us were right behind it.

Getting the whole rugby community to agree on anything is like herding a bunch of wild cats, innit.

I actually thought you must have made a mistake so I went on the website myself and - you are totally correct - and I agree with your outrage - who wants to pay 160 bucks for that when the afl tickets are so much more affordable and - even the handling fee is half!!

Don't want to sound nasty and I agree in principle that the ticket prices are often over priced, but what level tickets are you trying to buy for $160? Gold level tah tickets are $56 for an adult, $45 concession and $33 for a junior. Bronze ga is $25, 19 and 12 respectively. Actually looking at the tahs prices for tonight they aren't shockingly bad compared to other sports.

i have an acquaintance who is a Rebels member (platinum) and also one at Carlton, for less than he pays for a seat at AAMI, with CFC he gets access to close to 50 games a year if you count reserve grade and finals matches, compared with 7 or 8 for the Rebels.

I stated myself and my 16 yr old daughter i.e. 2 adults

If you look on the website Gold tickets are on the try line.

Bronze is not available.

So looking at the website and whats actually for sale the pricing is bad!
