With the news of Felix Kalapu joining the Waratahs with the troubles they are having in the second row, does anyone know what the story was with him being released from the Force with a year on his bid? I remember him signing a 3 year deal for 2023-2025 seasons and being quite impressed with him in 2023 (particularly work-rate and ball-carry) before busting himself in the 2024 pre-season. Was it because he wasn’t Aussie-qualified so they let him go? Had huge potential but glad he’s landed elsewhere in Australia.

Strange move by the Force might’ve been due to him not being Aussie-qualified.
Kalapu was impressive in 2023, and it’s great he’s landed at the Waratahs to help their second-row issues!

We'll be in a world of trouble if we need to call on Beale for the Lions tour. Glad to see him playing another year though. Was always one of my favourite players to watch.

Something about flogging a dead horse here.
This shows the problem of lurching from cyclic programs ie 4 years between world cups and 12 years between Lions Tours.
The older troops hang on a bit too long and prevent the development of the next generation. And made worse when there are multiples of players in this situation.
Feels like we climb a mountain and drop off a cliff.

Really…
Statistically the number of players over 30 years of age is significantly less in Australian super Rugby teams then it is in other international club rugby union teams as well as AFL and NRL teams..

I don't think they're re-signing him as a front line option or at the expense of a younger player here, particularly with him out for the first half of the season. He'll be a huge help for Grealy, Potter and Burey (or whoever else they end up playing at 15), in much the same way O'Connor has been for the young 10s at the reds.

Good on him. Good depth pick up.

If he can hit some sort of form could be a nice option for the AUNX XV v the Lions. Think the Wallabies ship may have sailed though.
Yeah, I see him playing the AU/NZ game and the combined Indigenous/Pasifika (maybe even as captain), but it'd probably take an injury crisis for him to feature for the wallabies. Particularly with Wright cemented as first choice and Sua'ali'i now on the scene.
