Western Force 2019

Kinda would’ve liked to see the force do a 12 signings of Christmas promotion. Announce a new player every day, get people regularly checking into to social media in the days leading up to Christmas. On Christmas Day/Boxing Day do some sort of membership or merch promotion.

You should do up your CV and submit it to the Unions and RA. Because clearly you have more nous and imagination than their current Social Media managers. Totally sincere here.

Peter Grant hangs up his boots

January 30, 2019

Former Springbok and Western Force flyhalf Peter Grant has announced his retirement from Rugby.

The 34-year-old made the decision to retire after receiving specialist advice from doctors in regard to past head injuries.

Personally not surprised about this news as the concussions last year were coming too frequently.

It's been good to have Peter at the Western Force.
I'm sure that there is a big role to play at the WF and in Club rugby.

During the 2nd half of the 2017 season showed what could have been if the WF had been successful in getting him earlier.

Thanks for your efforts Bash. Enjoy your retirement and extra time with your family.

Any further update on what's happening in the West? Seems a bit quiet...
I know time moves slowly over there but surely the hangovers from New Years have subsided by now?

Singapore and Fiji seem the most certain at the moment right? Singapore signing a lot of kiwis - and Junior Laloifi.

Yes - it's all a bit quiet on the GRR side but can understand that little to announce before it's all locked in.

At this stage it seems more likely that it may be a max 6 team competition (with no indications from GRR as to the make-up of these teams). Why? If still 8 teams they'd be announcing trial games in February in order to fit into the available time slot.
Lots of conjecture from many sources.

Proximity to RWC in Japan must be having an impact.

I wonder if it will be another "Invitational " season?

The full WF squad is back on the pre-season training track with feedback that most came back looking fresh and fit with many settings PBs on the post-break initial assessment.

Like everybody else I'm eagerly awaiting more news.

What do ya think is going on?
Hopefully finalising teams that will compete in GRR? And then a whole back office team organising logistics? A lot of field sessions, gym sessions and community work with no competition to compete in? Waiting for the ARU to beg them to come back? Who knows

This sounds like back office promo work disguised as punditry... you speak too eloquently and with too much consideration for your average GAGR member haha. At this stage who would be the 6 teams competing? I’d imagine the Malaysia push is still strong?

A fair bit of that, although the ARU may be on call waiting.

Just a ForceFan who is trying hard to be positive while bouncing back from the travesty suffered in 2017.

I've no idea, any more, about the make-up of the 6 teams. Just too many rumours over the past months

time is on our side sunshine

Yep, another whole year..........

Global Rapid Rugby has been postponed until 2020 in a major blow to billionaire mining magnate Andrew Forrest and his vision for an Asia-Pacific rugby competition.

The Herald understands Forrest made the difficult call to push back the competition for one year on the eve of its mooted March kick-off after failing to clinch deals with two of the six teams - the Malaysian and Samoan sides - slated for its first season.

its indicative now. Seems the Force will go on tour now - playing through Asia, Pacific Islands and Australasia.

I wonder if they'll play home games too (outside of the NRC)?

Yeah apparently there's some home games included. One things certain though is now they have a full 12 months to turn the screws on NSW rugby re the western Sydney team. No more excuses about not enough time to set up a franchise.
