The 2016 payment was the first part of $6m being paid to the Rebels over 5 years in lieu of $8.5m being provided to the other franchises over the same period. The Rebels deal is just front ended. I am sure if the Force fan deal goes through, the ARU would be happy to provide level funding.

A front ended deal does this infer any kind of solvency issue with the Rebels?

Sorry Stoff, the $6 m payment was not in lieu of any $8.5 m and where you got that from, or where Wayne got that from I have no idea, the $6m is part of the EXTRA SPECIAL FUNDING ARRANGEMENT as per 2015 and 2016 annual reports

Mr Cox has a cash cow, TGI Fridays, but he is averse to spending his own money, the ARU has propped him up with the special funding arrangement to date, he said he 'broke even in 2015' - due to this extra $2.6 m he received over and above what other franchises received.
As far as solvency goes, he would have a get of jail card if the bills were too high, just like any other business owner has, he can just walk away.

If the ARU and other Aus rugby groups have even considered dropping an Aus rugby side in preference to the newbies Argentine & Sunwolves, I think is the most galling anti Australian idea. I have read on these forums so many who are relishing losing The Force, a 5th team, but the consequences and ripple effect will do naught but future damage to the face of Aus rugby. As an immigrant and now proudly Australian, I became a devout Wallabies and Force Fan, because not only that they were 'my' teams, but the spirit the guys have shown with backs against the wall-the Anzac spirit. But if the ARU capitulate to this vile idea without a fight for 'my' team, I will have lost all faith in their lack of integrity and will turn my back on all Aus rugby apart from our local clubs. And don't underestimate the anger that's going to ensue from those betrayed!
I also appreciate those on this site who have shown support, so thank you to those who have some vision!
That's MY rant!
UP THE FORCE!

Does anyone know if there are numbers out there on how many of the Force shares have been bought? I've got one. A bunch of other people have tweeted or posted in various places (Western Force twitter, here, TWF). Media are reporting that each team member has bought a share.

Just curious whether those people who expressed an interest have taken up the offer. In some instances I believe people expressed an interest but were interested in buying more than one share- makes me wonder if that will balance out the number of people who have changed their minds.

At the moment there isn't anything been released as to how many people have committed so far. Apart from those who have letting other people know.

Personally, I haven't yet. But i'm in for multiple shares when i do.

That's just it as well. He can afford to be adverse to spending his own money when he knows that he will continue not to have to.

IMO he should be prepared to have a self sustaining team, or sell up. He is taking additional funding away from the sport across potentially all levels nationally.

^^^^^^ I would say a lot of people will wait to see what decision is made. If the Force are jettisoned from the comp people would question what would be the point buying into something that has no future. If they could have gotten 'buy the Force' up and running a month ago, before this drama, things would have been much better.

Yeah I reckon you're right.
People will be waiting to see what happens. Although IF the force get canned, you would imagine that immediately the focus would switch from "own the force" to "own the rebels, relocate and re-brand as the force"

If we buy in, are the ARU obligated to sell us back the license at a reasonable price? If not, could they not just price us out of the equation and go ahead with the cut and the re-structure of the competition?

How much money will we then get back after accounting and legal costs have been taken care of?

Mate, have you read the prospectus published last week on the website?

Lots of these sort of questions are addressed there.

Short answer though, it's all at your risk at the moment.

Buying a Force share is like proposing to your girlfriend. You fork over a lot of money for something that won't really do anything for you. There is always the risk she will run off with the ring and sell it to buy meth. But if you really love her.....

Buy a Force share.

The Road Safety Western Force and Woodside will be hosting a rugby skills clinic with champion former Springbok player Francois Pienaar on Wednesday, 12 April 2017.
The skills clinic will be held at the UWA Rugby Club, McGillivray Oval UWA Sports Park, Brockway Road, Mt Claremont, commencing at 1 pm and concluding at 3 pm.
More than 270 local rugby players aged between 5 – 17 years have registered to participate in the clinic, which highlights the interest in this once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from the 1994 International Rugby Player of the Year.

silence in regards to what?

I just expected to see more people trying to argue for the retention of the Force. The passion has been unreal from the West. I think we're all just shot of the whole process, and I guess we're all just at our wits end and have nothing left in the tank...
