Charles is the only professional athlete with cystic fibrosis playing a contact sport. He was diagnosed with the potentially life-threatening condition when he was just three months old. To get on top of his CF, Charles takes up to 30 tablets every day. But for Charles, the best form of medication is exercise.

And when young CF sufferers see Charles bashing his 104kg frame around the rugby field, they can't help but be inspired. That inspiration is a two-way street.

Force to 'Pull On Your Socks' for McGrath Foundation

The Western Force will wear pink socks in their match against the Lions at the ‘Force Field’ (nib Stadium) on Saturday, 24 May in support of the McGrath Foundation’s ‘Pull On Your Socks’ campaign.

‘Pull On Your Socks’ encourages sports teams to wear pink socks to support the McGrath Foundation ensure every family in Australia experiencing breast cancer has access to a breast care nurse, as well as increasing breast awareness in young Australians.

The Western Australian team is encouraging its supporters in the Sea of Blue to join in the campaign by purchasing pink ‘Pull On Your Socks’ socks from the Western Force Team Store for the match with all proceeds going to the McGrath Foundation. Local teams can also get on board by registering to host their own Pull On Your Socks game at www.mcgrathfoundation.com.au.​

Spreading rumours about the potential relationship aren't really helping anything. Personally, I think it would be good if it did come out at some point, his teammates and the broader rugby community supported them with open arms and everyone moved on.

The Force are apparently so confident of winning in Bloemfontein to go top of the Australian conference that one board member has promised to swim nude in the Swan River on Sunday morning if it occurs. i have actually been think about this and i think Growden has gone to far.

In the same article he lashs someone he sees as a racist which if true is complelty wrong yet its ok to push a homophobic rumour i dont understand what business it is of his and how ESPN have seen fit to publish this as news worthy.

you would think but just look at the way people reacted in America when Michael Sam came out ahead of todays draft interestingly he still hasnt been drafted.......

Yeah, you can certainly understand why gay professional athletes are still incredibly hesitant to come out.

For all the talk of being inclusive and accepting, there is still clearly a long way to come. Unfortunately it will long remain an issue where awful reactions from a small minority will outweigh acceptance from the majority.

Re: Michael Sam, it's a shame that a team interested in him didn't draft him early to make a statement that they welcome him.
