The Town Hall Hotel Richmond

288 Bridge Road ( opposite the town hall that looks like its from Back to the Future )

Is giving away a free pint to anyone who mentions the Yellow Scarf this weekend 19th & 20th Feb.

The Townie is the best place in Melbourne to watch rugby come find out.

Thanks! Now if I could work out how to get from St Kilda to Richmond without having to take the car... :nta:

You could always ask for a pint of soda water!

The Chapel St Tram would seem a goer.

The 78 tram turns into the 79 at nighttime and it goes from St.Kilda through Church/Bridge intersection off to Richmond.

That being said I'd back College Lawn as an S14 pub.

I've never heard of this other place as a rugby venue and based on the fact TownieGinger only has one post I'd say he would probably have a vested interest. Web 2.0 does make promotion very cost effective.

Almost certainly, but a free pint is a free pint.

That and Richmond is easier for me to get to, if I don't just go to my local.

It's just unfortunate that outside of the CBD rugby mostly gets shown in pubs in the snobby suburbs in the eastern and southern suburbs of the city...

I live in the north, and I watch the rugby pretty regularly at one of my locals. I know of a couple of other places in the north I could easily go see it too.

If you're in/around northcote, the Peacock will generally be showing it. It plays second fiddle to the AFL, but there's usually a few random expats or regulars who show up to watch the game.

Additionally: the south and east areas which make up 2/3rds of melbourne is not really rugby heartland either. Its mostly *inner* south and east.

I think E.Hills, Moorabin and Souths all in the deep South would disagree with that. Those 3 clubs would have to provide the lion's share of the juniour state sides.

Moorabin has a pretty good history and the growth of the other two clubs is testament to rugby down here expanding outside of it's traditional niche heartland, that doesn't change that I think you'll find the greatest concentration of teams playing would have to be around the Hawthorn/Kew area, particularly with the number of schoolboy sides there.

Even if we look at premier div sides, you have Melbourne, Harlequins, Powerhouse and Boroondara in the inner east/south east. Melbourne Uni was in my day populated largely by blokes from the inner east and Box Hill is pretty much inner east these days. Even Moorabin is only a couple of suburbs from Brighton or Caufield; we're not talking Cranbourne or Narre Warren here.

... the Eastern and Southern suburbs probably make up about 2/3 of Melbourne.

It was more an observation on how it's easier to find a pub that has the rugby playing in a pub in the more affluent suburbs... Particularly the inner east and inner south...

Not surprisingly...

My local will have a Wallabies match but finding a place nearby that shows Super rugby is near impossible...

Many people still don't know the difference between the codes...
