Hawko, I agree he did a fair amount of work taking the ball into the defensive line, however, for someone his size he didn't really look like he was going to break the line or put a significant dent in it. He was a little too easy most of the time to bring to ground. Maybe he was more concerned about ball retention and setting the ball in a ruck rather than really attacking the defence.

I hope he is told to use his size and aggression when taking the ball into contact and concentrate firstly on breaking the line, then if he doesnt then get to ground and set the ball

He takes three or four defenders out of the line, like an old fashioned league prop, he sucks in defenders and bends the line. Then the following phase can exploit the shorter numbers.

i dont know about anyone else, but i for one am really worried about the reds and their most potent attacking weapon - genia and his box kicks.

i think this may give the reds the edge they need to take it to the wire.

@ The Red Baron, I can't think of any better passer in the game then Phipps at the moment.

I'm not particularly worried about Skelton or Palu with ball in hand...

Why you might ask!?

I'll answer with rugby cliche's.

"The bigger they are, the harder they fall"
"You can't run without your legs"

Couple those two with the fact that the Reds have been honing their grasscutting skills for three years now and, ta daa!!!
Tip is not fussed

The Q-Grenade hates anything Blue. It was bred into him at a young age, just like Spanish bulls being tormented by the matadors.

I think the Tahs will win this one, but the Reds will square it up later in the season.

One thing that one can guarantee about any Queensland team in any sport is that they will lift when they play a team from NSW. Two good teams, no obvious favourite as far as I can see.

Both teams owe it to the game to turn on a high quality match.

A good big man will always beat a good little man.
I just don't agree with this statement. Barnes was never run over by Ma'a Nonu when playing 12.
Conrad Smith (88kg) deals with bollocking outside centres every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
You rarely see To'omua beaten by a big bopper either.

Size isn't everything (sure it helps), technique is.

Until Skelton fixes his technique, (he runs far too high into contact) his size advantage is nullified.

Now before everyone jumps down my throat for being a one eyed reds fan, I'd love Skelton to improve ten fold over the next three months - he's a fantastic Wallaby prospect - but all the better if that improvement is postponed for a week. :D

I agree there was a huge difference in contact between Palu and Skellton.

I agree totally, not only that,he was looking to slip the ball before contact once he had sucked in an additional defender.
They are going to eat metres doing that this year.
I'm excited!

I'm excited about what can be created, his career is only just getting started.

He did a lot of work, particularly in charging at the defence. As a result, he missed a number of tackles and looked burnt out by half time. I suspect he needs to learn not to go too hard too early; he should pace himself over 60 minutes, not 20. But he's young and raw with oodles of natural talent, just a bit too much youthful enthusiasm. This week he'll get 20-25 minutes as Potgeiter won't go the distance yet either and when he comes off the bench it will need to be full-on.

His "fitness" will improve with game time and he'll know when to go and when to rest with a bit more experience.

Wise selection by Cheika, I think.

by comparison has Cliffy Palu ever been this fit, On watching the replay he had a cracker vs the force

The concern about this game is not the undoubted ability of the Banjo players, who are the match of the chosen ones across the field in nearly all positions less those less than jumper 5, and even then it will be a ding dong battle.

The concern is will Sydney do this battle the justice it deserves and turn up in the required numbers.

It is at Homebush.

14 years ago Homebush rocked. Everyone wanted to go there for a two week period from 15 September 2000 until 30 September. It was the place to be and everyone wanted to be there.

There are kids in high school now who's parents hadn't even met each other. let alone done what is required to produce a child who could be at High School in 2014, when the Olympic Train visited Sydney in 2000.

A 25000 crowd at Stadium Homebush has the atmosphere (and TV presense) of about 1000 people at Foreshaw Park in Sylvania.

Sydney better turn up in very, very large numbers for this match or it will be a flop of the greatest magnitude.

How much promotion has there been for this match? 7/5 ths of SFA?

In general from what I have seen and heard around town, I think the promotion budget fot this game has matched the total budget for all the unpaid interns in Tahland.

I think he will be more suitable in games against mauling sides. His telespopic arms and strength makes him very disruptive in defensive mauling

What I have noticed is that he carries his body height a bit high. If he can get it down a bit, he is going to be an absolute weapon.

The other reason for the Potgeiter selection I see is the Reds lineout after last week will have caught Chieka's attention. It was pretty good and the Tahs will need more variety.

The shite crowd on sat and possibly an equally small crowd on sat night bothers me deeply.
Do punters want a rugby team in Sydney ??because if this keeps up there won't be one.Get to the game and bring a friend.

^^^ It was a shite Sunday Crowd not Saturday, but your point is equally valid.

Remember that some of us have been in the bleachers when the Tahs only attracted single digit thousand crowd figures in the last couple of years.

In that context, 16000 on Sunday (whilst shite on one level) is a decent outcome, but still shite.

C'mon Sydney, Roll on and Roll up. It is Stadium Ghostbush, but rock on in. You are most welcome.
