I wouldn't be surprised to see a crafty extra prop substitution.

Ryan will come off early for Robbo and then Ta'avao will have some sort of injury late in the game and Ryan will return.

I reckon if Reds can turn this into an arm wrestle they have a chance in this, and on that basis I've taken the $5.

Sure as eggs,RG will decide this is the week that every play comes off their 10,in which case it will be Tahs by 50.

Looking forward to Super Rugby not looking forward to the Reds v tahs games. This game will show case what I am in for this season following the Reds. Can't be any worse than last season can it.
Only chance of the Reds wining is Hopper getting nailed at every ruck for illegal infringement and that new famous Japanese import kick goals all night long

I'm not "toooo" concerned with the Tahs team.

From a pack perspective I think we can match, perhaps even best.

1. Paddy Ryan v Ben Daley (I know they don't match up in scrums, but looking impact around the field)
2. Tatafu Polota-Nau v Saia Fainga'a
3. Angus Ta’avao v Greg Holmes
4. Dean Mumm v Rob Simmons
5. Will Skelton v Cadyern Neville
6. David Dennis v Hendrick Tui
7. Michael Hooper v Liam Gill
8. Jed Holloway v Jake Schatz

I reckon the Reds can claim the win there. I think the tight five in particular should be on top, with TPN the only real person I'd swap for.

Backrow is interesting and much will come down to the game that the two 7s play. Gill hasn't been as on top of his game in the two trials, missing most of one through injury. Hooper only freshly back too really.

9. Nick Phipps v Nick Frisby
10. Kurtley Beale v Jake McIntyre
11. Zac Guildford v CFS
12. David Horwitz v Henry Teafu
13. Rob Horne v Samu Kerevi
14. Matt Carraro v Eto Nabuli
15. Israel Folau v Karmichael Hunt

This is where the class shines through. Test match halves v a pair that have been bench players (if that). Any advantage we had with the Tah debutant at 12 is nullified by our own likely debutant. They play different games though don't they? Will be an interesting watch. Horne v Samu is key and the big Fijian can't afford to wait for the opportunity - he needs to get stuck in early and often. The back three is actually pretty fascinating. Folau a stand out, but let's hope Hunt can bring a bit of Origin style hype to his performance and bring on a big game. Nabuli's inexperience and CFS's laziness may be found out. In the end, it's actually the Reds have the better combination on the back of Brisbane City in the NRC. Maybe that will be enough???? Ok. I'm convinced. I'm putting money on the Reds.

Reds should dominate the set piece, but that's likely where their dominance will end............

If Gill can frustrate the Tahs at the breakdown (will need some support from his fellow forwards), and they can get the likes of Kerevi and Hunt onto some front foot ball then they've got a chance, but I think the Tahs will be far superior in general play with a better, and more experienced roster.

Caderyn Neville would not get into the Tahs' squad.

He's our third string lock but whatever. I would have him ahead of your reserve locks any day.
Even if I entertained the notion that you are correct, that would say more about those responsible for contracting the Tahs roster than Neville's playing ability.

Underrate Holloway all you want. He'll give 78 Super Rugby cap Schatz a lesson in #8 play.

Who is underrating Holloway? You're jumping at shadows man! I love how twitchy Tahs fans get before these matches!

EDIT: I don't really know much about Holloway so I looked him up to see how awesome a #8 he is to be giving Schatz a lesson. From the Tahs website.....

A strong, ball-carrying lock with the ability to play at blindside

1. Paddy Ryan v Ben Daley - T.
2. Tatafu Polota-Nau v Saia Fainga'a - W.
3. Angus Ta’avao v Greg Holmes - T.
4. Dean Mumm v Rob Simmons - R.
5. Will Skelton v Cadyern Neville - W.
6. David Dennis v Hendrick Tui - W.
7. Michael Hooper v Liam Gill - W.
8. Jed Holloway v Jake Schatz - T.

9. Nick Phipps v Nick Frisby - W.
10. Kurtley Beale v Jake McIntyre - W.
11. Zac Guildford v CFS - W.
12. David Horwitz v Henry Teafu - T.
13. Rob Horne v Samu Kerevi - T.
14. Matt Carraro v Eto Nabuli - W.
15. Israel Folau v Karmichael Hunt - W.

I've allocated W, R and T (ties) above for the player I think is the best in his position throughout the two teams.

9 Waratahs, 5 Ties and 1 Reds.

Even then, I think that, whilst the Reds props probably have scrum dominance, the Waratahs props are better around the park. For all the crap Ryan gets here, I think he's actually a handy player around the pitch.

Rob Simmons edges Mumm for me, but only edges. They are very similar players.

Its a tie at 8. I really don't think Shatz offers much at all. Holloway has some great potential, but he's largely untested at this level and I've seen many players more talented than him never make the step up.

Two ties in the back line. One at twelve, as they are both debutants, and one at 13. The tie at 13 is purely based upon the different games the two play. Rob Horne has played for the Wallabies at both wing and centre, and is rock solid defensively. He's shown promise in attack as well, especially over the last few seasons.

Kerevi, on the other hand, is electric with ball in hand, but is a bit of a liability without it.

In terms of coaches, Gibson over Graham any day of the week.

And, of course, we have to consider the intangibles. Team morale? Team cohesion? Track record of the team?

In 2014, the Waratahs won the competition. In 2015, they recorded the second highest number of wins. The majority of the player group who accomplished both these feats still remain.

On the other hand, the Reds have spent two seasons under RG near the bottom of the table, with growing animosity between the player base and the coach, with no real signs of improvement. They are leaking talent like nothing else, and are relying immensely on untested and novice players.

How do I think it'll go?

Whilst I love the enthusiasm, I can only see it going one way. You're team is barely a team. It relies too much upon flashes of brilliance from key players, and not enough upon good structures or patterns of play.

Whilst Kerevi might break the line for a try, Gill might make some pilfers or Hunt might have some nice touches, this won't be pretty for Reds fans.

Waratahs by 25+.

We got more than enthusiasm, we got heart. I'll set the scene, 2011, Tahs camped on our line, scrum after scrum for 25 minutes the Reds held for, Tahs never scored and Waugh chucked a tantrum after the game. The boys gave all for each other that night.

All we need to do is kick a goal to get in front then pack scrum after scrum for 80 minutes, you know the Tahs won't get through, the game is in the bag.

Reds by 3.

Caydern Neville should be a Wallaby by now. No idea why he isn't less lazy. Hope he proves me wrong because he's big enough and ugly enough to do the job.

Absolutely right. Plus he is a former elite rower, which means he has a big engine.

Should be a champion. But as they say, he looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane.

As a neutral... seriously?

One of them has been one of the best scrummaging props in the comp, and recently the Wallabies reserve TH....

The other is Ta'avao.

Absolutely. Holmes doesn't offer much around the park, and I think Ta'avao beats him in that regard.

Not too many Super Rugby games are decided by scrums.

It's a long bow comparing the 2011 Reds to the current rabble.:)

Hasn't played lock for a while now. But apart from that the decscriprion is fairly accurate.
