Fair enough WJ, you pretty much nailed the others, but Ioane was the only red back to make an impression and thanks to the structure and quality of the Tahs defence when he did get over the advantage line - and he did several times - it was while being smashed. One collision with Barnes caused his wobbles.

There was enough to criticise in the Reds performance without being one-eyed about it. Am I sensitive still - hell yes!

wasnt actually trying, and was basing it on last years games as well that iaone missed most of. happy to be mistaken as hoping he figures in the wobs at the expense of JOC (James O'Connor) this year. (JOC (James O'Connor) to bench as supersub)

last week was the same though. the reds game plan last year seemed to allow them space which made them look like much more complete players than they do now. chambers and finger just dont seem to get going if it gets tough, hard ask for those outside to pick up the slack for them

Does anyone know whats the word on BKH injury and when he will be back on deck ?. This kid would give us a lot more off the bench than Cross currently does.

If he held one pass, he'd be ahead after Cross' cameo last night!!
Not sure when he'll be back though.

not too sure about BKH, but Pat McCutcheon played against Fiji for the Junior Tahs.

Great performance again from the Tahs last night. As others have said, there is more of a sting in their defence and mongrel in the pack than there's been in a long time. The work over the off season has paid off big time. It will be interesting to see if it can continue, however. A big test against the Cru next week away.

For all the criticism I have levelled at Carter since I've been here, I have to applaud his game last night. One of my gripes with him (apart from the needless handbag niggle) has been his lack of passing game. Well last night we saw something of it and I think it's been his big area of improvement. There has never been anything wrong with his defence or running into contact, but he's always looked a bit pedestrian in attack. Not last night though.

Really happy with the form of Horne as well. He looks to be back to his best.

2nd year blues?...From what. Not making the finals in 2010?

All the blame shouldn't be lated on the forward pack. They didn't set the foundation for the Reds but you don't necessarily need front foot ball to score a damn try. IMO 9/10/12/13 all looked nonchalant and completely disinterested.
I agree with all of the above except Ant Fainga'a was absolutely everywhere during the first half. He did so much work in defence he may as well have been wearing 7 on his back. Faded a little towards the end due to exhuastion but he looked absolutely up for it- unlike the his partners in crime Quade 'the flake' Cooper & Genia... don't get me started on Chambers!! The Waratahs played well and look absolutely RIPPED one and all. It really sucks watching your team get bitch-slapped like that for 80 minutes... gutted

The Tahs pack does appear to be a completely different beast this season physically. There have been a few vids posted regarding their off season that appear to have them looking for different means in which to develop this new found physical confidence. You can see leading into contact that the Tahs forwards feel confident that they have the physicality to make a significant impression. Mongrel has been mentioned on more than one occassion but I don't think that's entirely correct, is more of a side effect of a very obvious sense of belief in themselves and their preparation.

Some have questioned the reported additional bulk of in particular Mowen. According to reports he's packed on a huge amount of what now appears to be effective braun. Well, from what I've seen so far this season it seems it pretty obvious where that have gone. Alongside Douglas, he really look to be a monster of a man while maintaining (at the very least) his well established mobility.

Am very interested to their performance next week as the Crusaders will provide stiff physical opposition. Having likely watched the game by then the Crusaders likely will intentionally go out to do so, I think they'll have to. If not they could be in for a similar serving as to what both the Rebs and Reds have recieved.

It looks like they strapped steaks to Mowen's skull and then put his skin back on

The pre-2011 Mowen was a player I never rated. Nimble on his feet and good in the line-out but offered nothing special around the park. This year he looks immense and is playing like it too. No more trying to step his way into gaps between defenders, just hard direct forward play. I'm already shitting myself a little about our next encounter with the Tah's. Here's to hoping the firm contracted during the Tah's in the off season become involved in the Wallaby set-up somehow, I'd love to see some of the players like Pat McCabe, Simmons and Cooper getting the hulk treatment.

Simmons might do alright, but you'll remember the effect of the pies on KB (Kurtley Beale). The Tahs, bless them, thought he needed extra weight, and he lost all of his attacking prowess as a result. I can't imagine Cooper's game would be improved by extra bulk. After all, he's a great attacker, and his issue with defense isn't weight related, it's all technique and nerves.

Oops- left out the "Ash" to my "Cooper". Quade's problems are indeed between the ears. As to McCabe- I still think he could benefit. Nice long frame with a game that doesnt rely on agility (like Kurtley) but more-so speed and strength in contact. Loves to run the ball straight as an arrow- even if that arrow is pointing directly at Lipman's right shoulder!

Ahem, Beale didn't get fat 'because the Tahs thought he needed extra weight'. ::)
