OK, who's coming on Saturday night? I'll probably have one spare seat, TR may have a few, LG may have one or two. Could I suggest a late lunch at the Lord Nelson (I've checked with the publican: Anileation Irish Stout WILL be on over Easter!) before heading off to the match and finishing up at the Fox & Lion afterwards? It's about time we saw the colour of Phuc's jumper and fatprop needs to show his face. Back in civilisation, Moses? You allowed out, Ash?

Thomo, you mentioned elsewhere your compulsory attendance at a dinner after the game; it's an evening match which finishes at about 9:30pm. Dinner's definitely out, beers are the go. Expect to get back to your hotel at about midnight, suitably oiled. Bring yer spare-rib.

Re: Tahs v Cheetahs

Lord Nelson probably wont work for me. Mrs Riddler has some plans for an afternoon of culture before we head towards Moore Park and, as sophisticated as the infamous Rocks establishment may be, I dont think thats what she had in mind. Probably a 5pm start for me. Is there a warmup game? Tahs marketing department have been at their non-communicative best this week so far.

I am visiting Sydney over Easter, and I am coming to the match. The afternoon is out for me, but the Fox and Lion is a possibility.

I hope McCaffery get some gametime. He is largely unrealised potential at the moment.

He hasn't been great when I saw him twice for the JWs either, but to be fair he is not a 7.

Anybody know if Alcock has a contract beyond this year? (I've somehow lost all my ScrapBook bookmarks). I thought he had just a rookie contract and nothing else to follow and that McCutcheon would be the reserve 7 next year. If so, it could be his make or break game.

It will be good to see McCaffrey in action in a S14 game also. We have all these theories about young blokes based on how they play club rugby but Super rugby is 2 tiers up; not that we have the tier in between any more.

As stated before: TPN should have been benched - and maybe for the whole game if things were going well.

I thought Caldwell would get a start and 20 y.o. Douglas get a well deserved rest. IMO there is only so much grunt work a young bloke can do one week after the other and there could be a tendency for him to obey the command of his body to shirk some.

Clearly Hickey is not happy with Mowen at 7 or he is not happy with McCaffrey full stop. Based on the last two games that McC made the bench for, he won't see any time this week either. I suppose its a case of desperation - looking for the young messiah in case Waugh is still out next week against the Crusaders.

Lee:

If he was not great for the JW's why do you think he got the big leg up?

I agree with your other comments on resting Douglas and TPN. Good game time for Ducker and Fitzpatrick would have strengened our hand for the run in to the finals and rested key players who need it. If TPN is not worn out by round 14 then he's not human.

1. Don't know. Don't know why he got a rookie contract in the 1st place either except that they had to have 3 rookies in their S14 roster and he had a top club season. Otherwise a promising player usually starts in the pro Academy. Maybe the Gordon mafia on the forum know.

2. There is some doubt about this also.

He was offered an academy contract to begin with, turned it down and the Tahs came back with a rookie contract. Was either very smart negotiating from him and his manager or terrible negotiating from the Tahs.

I believe (but am not 100% sure) that it was only a 1 year deal and as yet he is unsigned for next year. If he plays well this week, maybe Melbourne next year would not be out of the question.

Re. Alcock not being great for the JW's, according to Hickey he has been close to best on ground in every match he's played:

"If Phil doesn't improve sufficiently, we would look at starting Chris Alcock," Hickey said. "It's his first year in the program, but he has really impressed us in the NSW A games. He has been close to being the best player on the field in all of the A games.

I haven't seen him so have no opinion but Hickey obviously thinks very highly of him.

I can confirm that I have two spare members tickets available for Saturday's game. PM me if you would like to utilise them, pleading your case. I reserve the right to post the most desperate, funny, pathetic notes back here :)

As for Alcock, good Gordon boy. Nothing more needs to be said. Dont want any of that Warringah rubbish polluting the side and far too many Eastwood players in the team as it is.

Right, current state of play is; no dinner on Saturday, so that's fine. Conference sessions end at four, so I'm good after that. Mrs. T78 will be coming, so I need to sort out tickets for us - and some vague pointers about how one does this would be useful. We're both good with the Lord Nelson, and the fine products thereof. We're on a flight north at 09:00, so I suspect I might not quite be going on the absolute tear... :'(

Not according to my eyes in the two JW games I saw. In particular flankers Fainga'a and Hooper were so obviously superior for the Brumbies Runners at Knox (Huxley's comeback game) to Alcock that it makes Hickey's comments seem like tongue in cheek coach speak.

Mind you - Hickey saw all the games and I didn't. Maybe he was terrific in those other games but I can only report what I saw and not what I didn't. Let's all hope that he can justify Hickey's comments. I wish him well.

thatguy

Thanks for that info - never heard that before.

I'll probably have a spare ticket but won't know until Saturday noon.

Lindommer - will you control the ticket situation for T78?
