i think one of the fundamental errors in the warratahs game plan is that they plan to have their captain come off at the 65 minute mark- dont give me injury rubbish- i doubt phil waugh has finished a game for a long time
ive been going on about this for ever- IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A CAPTAIN TO NOT BE ON THE FIELD WHEN A TEAM NEEDS HIM
he is being carried for his leadership... id suggest the tahs would be better off playing dennis and not having a "fetcher"- tis not like phil waugh plays that role anyway
commoin sense begs the question if u cant have a vital player on the park for the full game is it better to have him there at the start? or at the end?
-games are won at the 80th minute- not the 65th

I can honestly not believe the pissing and moaning from both the NSW supporters, but also from within the team. I am in NSW at the moment, and reading the local rags is an actual disgrace. TPN whinging how Horwill 'conned' the ref, Hickey is "upset and feeling angry". The sentiment in the forum post game is deplorable. It's a game, we won.

Remember the constant berating of the Reds when cliffy palu scored on the buzzer? posters would put the video up, and laugh about how funny it was. Reds supporters just sucked it up, to act with such childish emotions has really put a dampner on the whole game for me. I said pre match that I hate the Waratahs, I can honestly feel completley satisfied with that illogical stand point in the wake of this constant stream of nonsense.

Waugh has been doing this for years, and ultimately, it only does himself a disservice. Look at Sharpe, Horwill, Matfield, Mortlock - all absolute champions, all highly motivated and passionate, all great leaders amongst their men - but none of them carry on like Waugh. They smile to the interviewer, lament what they did wrong, congratulate the opposition, and move on. It's not just what Waugh says either but the way he says it - bottom jaw stuck like a neanderthal, lips pursed.

Agreed. Not only does he refuse to accept that he and his team were outplayed by the Reds, his body language just reeks of a superior attitude. He barely looked at the interviewer, having a massive sulk the whole time. Thank God he isn't a Wallaby, we've been embarrassed enough already.

I don't understand the major blow-up about Phil. He is not unsportmenslike on the field, isn't constantly trying to push the boundaries of the rules, nor is he a dirty player. Those are the type of players which would "embarrass" the Wallabies.
However, he is extremely competitive, deplores losing and shows true grit. These are some qualities which, despite oozing talent, versatility and confidence, many Wallabies currently lack. He reminds of another true-leader, Tugga Waugh.

In a nutshell, who really cares what he is like as a person? Personally, although this was some years ago now, Curly Bill was an absolute tool. Despite stop me really appreciating what he does on the field. On that topic, did anyone catch Curly's post-match interview? I would much prefer a player who cares too much, than not enough about the result...

all this means is that the rivalry and passion is still strong, and we should be greatful for its existance.

passion on both sides and it was a fantastic game to watch.

Waratahs, and many NSW sporting teams in general, also share this similar mentality. First of all, I would argue whether or not it is "misguided". Should the NSW teams, many of which contribute significantly to all facets of the game, expect, or feel "entitled", to a greater share of success than, for instance the WA Force, or Melbourne Storm, or perhaps Tasmania Tigers?

Whether, it is "misguided" or not, this culture helps to explain a lot of unique culture amongst the NSWRU. First of all, success - if you really believe, and act like, you should be promoted, then you probably will be. In a lot of sports, NSW teams are good because they walk around thinking they are. Secondly, it creates a hatred for losing, hatred to the extent that they all appear to be 'sore losers'. Thirdly, it breeds a flimsical fan base. The fan's expect wins, and poor form will very quickly translate into falling crowd figures and booing.

What is important to discuss, is whether this sense of entitlement is benefcial to NSW Waratahs, and consequently the Wallabies? I vote yay, this culture has pre-dated my interest in the sport and historically speaking NSW have been successful - so something must be working.

Surely this report and the reaction on this thread lends credence to the Thread I started. The whole culture of the Tahs is rotten from the Top down. No matter who the coaches have been or the players, the tactics and results have been the same. For all their consistancy in reaching the finals is balanced with the mystifing capitulations and total lack of any discernable game plan or imagination in attack even when they dominate their opponents.

The lack of any ownership of the results from the coaching staff, senior players is a symptom of the "culture of entitlement and arrogance" that I wrote about. The Tahs could replay the game against the Reds a dozen times and might actually win it a few, but their performance and mode of play would be no better. Excuses would be made about the dire nature of interstate (especially NSW V Qld fixtures), but I will reply where was that when those same excuse makers lauded the Tahs in Weeks 1 and 2?
