Different issue, I think, and i doubt you'd sacrifice a victory just so you could finish the game with 6 minutes of scrums.
Seems to me, Sully, that they are entirely to blame.
If you dont actually want to play football - i.e. restart the game and put the ball back in play - then its pretty hard, if not impossible, to win a game of football.
You have to play footy to win footy.
My point exactly. The didn't want to restart the game they wanted to win a penalty from the scrum.

Well the Tahs at least have Steve Walsh . Bad luck though, good signs for the Ws

If you're going to try and win a game with a scrum penalty instead of positive play, you deserve what you get.

Yeah, I was hoping for them to back their dominant scrum, get the right side up (to put the openside a step behind) and have a go from the set piece with one of their "patented" 1st phase moves

Hooper has cemented the Wallabies 7 jumper IMO. Gill can cover more positions off the bench at least.

He pinged hooper out of the game, i heard him say "ball is out" numerous times only to ping him when he picked up the ball. the breakdown was then all for the saders and that had a huge impact on us. some of those penalties for contesting the line out and then 'obstruction' were an absolute farce. you can easily blame the game on the ref for killing our momentum and not being a clear official. also a couple of times he had his hand in the air for a penalty only not to blow his whistle and let the saders take the ball.

saders at home with a kiwi ref who gifts them the game in the 2nd half, everyone will say 'oh typical tahs' but that was horrible.

Can you back this up? Find some actual footage of this and post please?

Your first claim if saying ball is out then pinging is pretty damning. Has Chieka laid an official complaint? Expect him to if this is the case

I caught a conversation between hooper and Jackson regarding something about him saying it was out but it wasn't clear.

I think Jackson pinged Hooper then Hooper said, "You said the ball was out." And Jackson said, "I said it was not out."

Which begs the question why anything needed to be said. Obviously Hooper heard "out" and went for the ball. To my mind, it's just more indication that Jackson doesn't have the chops for this level yet.

I have to admit, I didn't have a lot of sympathy for Reds fans after their Brumbies match. I have a lot more now. It always sucks to be on the wrong end of incompetence, even when your team blew it too.

And yet you only copped 3 minute of it, we had to put up with 15 plus of him bottling it.

There's a sleeping issue in this: the refs often call the ball out.
I reckon they should desist: its like the defending team having a 16th man telling them when its OK to advance.
Fine to call it out if he's ruling on a challenge thats already occurred, but not to tell the defenders they can now attack the ball.

And the ironic thing is they would have had a much better chance to win a penalty in front of the posts or work for a field goal if the didn't score a try.

Also I thought McKibbon was just excellent, his ability to continually get around phase to phase and provide excellent service may slow down the nah sayers.

He was streets ahead of Lucas

Funny how refs are always to blame for these events. Where is the official channel players/coaches/refs can go through to complain about professional props, whose job it is to scrum, not being able to get it right in 6 entire minutes.

I might have to start a thread on this tomorrow with more depth.

Professional props unable to scrummage properly?

Blasphemy sir.

If it had bee an Aussie ref' would it be different?

I'm thinking of P.O'B. v Stu Dickinson (I'm not wearing a tin hat).

I think it was the second scrum the Crusaders back row weren't bound Jackson bottled the call, penalty with 2 minutes to play after the kick. Who knows what would have happened.
.

True. my apologies, as a front rower i neglect to not the influence of backrowers at scrumtime

It was a clear and obvious offside penalty. Pretty sure Jacko said ball out or something after Hooper took off and that might have been the confusion.

He actually did a very good job apart from the brainfreeze in the last 5 minutes, but I'm sure everyone will learn from that including the players who might realize that tactic was a bit risky and didn't pay off in the end.

The way the Tahs coaches and a minority of their fans are carrying on about this is worse than your classic ignorant hothead under 12s coach blaming everyone but himself for a close loss. Just enjoy the fact you payed a good game of rugby and it truely could have gone either way.

Where are the Tahs coaches blaming Jackson for not giving the Crusaders a penalty on the first or second scrum? No-where. And it's because they are wearing super sized blinkers and are fueled by ignorant, emotional rage. Lyndan Bray is right not to answer a phone call 5 minutes after the game. No one should have to listen to that nonsense.

On a lighter note Falou played another good game from the parts I remember. I don't think he should be the Wallabies 15 due to lack of experience, but he's making the best possible case for that job.

Without diving into the details the second half was studded with the Tahs having their momentum broken by the ref while the Crusaders seemed to have free rein, but to be fair it was the other way round in the first half. The reffing was awful, end of, took me back to frustrations with Lawrence.

But the Tahs lost the game pure and simple. Bad kicking options and achingly slow service robbed them of the speed and momentum crucial to their game imo. Taking McKibbin off was an incredibly poor decision, he was having a huge game.

The Tahs were blowing real real hard at the break, it is quite possible some hard decisions were made as a result.
