Oom Lee, so whats your thoughts on the semi? Know you usually wait till after the match but this one is pretty special and I want to know the real experts thoughts on the semi. :nta:

Yep, and a S14 semi is more important than your average one off game away from Sydney. A 4th prop should be in the squad.

An injury to Waugh in the warm up means that McCutcheon could play there with Dennis to 6.

An injury to Douglas or Mumm in the warm up and Dennis plays lock as he does at Uni.

An injury to Tilse in the warm up and his bench spot is taken by ...... ?

Neither the 1st substiitution (no Alcock) nor the 2nd substitution (no Thompson) is ideal, but they are better than the 3rd one (no bench prop).

On the 1st prop injury TPN will be required to play the rest of the game at prop otherwise it breaches the requirement of the laws for teams to have sufficient front row players who are suitably trained and experienced to ensure that on the first occasion that a replacement in any front row position is required, the team can continue to play safely with contested scrums.

Whether or not TPN is currently suitably trained is moot - he is is certainly not experienced.

Of course, they may have another prop who is with a Waratah touring group as part of their cunning plan. Who can forget Tilse's grinning face in the crowd with Tahs fans in Perth?

I think we are only a 30/70 chance unless we play our best forward game of the year. I'm not worried about our backs, but the hot and cold performance of our forwards is a big worry.

As Bruce mentioned on another thread: Oz forwards have trouble grinding teams down physically. All Oz S14 teams experienced that too often and the Tahs were embarrassed in Round 12 by the Highlanders - our worst game. The Clan counter-rucked the Tahs at will and when their forwards had the ball they pick and went through us for most of the game.

The Tahs were also embarrassed in their 2nd worst game against the Stormers in Round 2. They didn't fire a shot and consequently the backs were walking back when we had the ball and scrambling when the Stormers had it.

The Stormers didn't play so well in a couple of games on tour but they are playing at home.

I note that I haven't talked about individual players or set pieces: it is the team dynamic, especially the pack dynamic, that is critical in my eyes.

We may have to rely on the Stormers not playing their best by putting pressure on them to do so - and as part of that pressure to turn the ball over and scoring the odd try from it. A poor goal kicking game by Grant would be handy also as would a severe 24 hour flu suffered by Burger and Bekker. What a couple of champs.

Dankie Oom Lee,

Ja the Stormers/Tahs have the addition benefit of knowing the result of the other semi, come kick off time. That will apply more pressure to both teams.

The Stormers dont use the counter rucking that well, Flo (Francois Louw) is the man who plays to the ball. Expect Mark Lawrense to be more leniant at ruck time and a worry for me regarding Waugh.

Expecting the Stormers to try and dominate possession and keep ball in hand. Its pretty refreshing from a SA point of view after many years our teams play more the kicking approach.

Our defense has been great all season and will be the big factor in this big matches.

Yeah good luck to both our teams. If we can't win the S14 this year I hope the Stormers can. The other two teams have had the good times.

I give the Tahs a big chance in this game, but they have to play positive and controlled rugby. I hope they don't got into their shells and start kicking everything, and hoping for Stormers mistakes, because they are unlikely to make many. If the Tahs can attack and get the Stormers on the back foot at times during the game, it will go a long way to leading on the scoreboard at the end.

They have the forwards to match the Stormers, they have the ruck presence to match them if they are up for it, they need to have the attack to break down the excellent Stormers defense, because we know the Stormers will break down the Tahs defense at least a few times.

My concern is the set piece, if the Tahs can win their own ball cleanly we have a chance.

If Bekker starts to dominate lineouts we may play the whole game in our own half defending
