Interested to see who the 9 is. The same post on Instagram did say signing to be announced.

Must have a few to be annonced with Dowling making it 13 players farewelled since their post on the 22nd June with:
Hooper, Latu, Faulkner, Donaldson, Harris, Seu, Goddard, Leatigaga, Nadolo, Tauakipulu, Von Appen, Marolt, Dowling
Jack Grant and Theo Fourie

Don't hate that.

Reckon both are 3rd string? I'd personally like to see Wilson the primary backup 9 behind Gordon to get him as much exposure to Super Rugby as possible. Mahe offers a lot as well to the team. Ball of energy around the field.

Hooker long term is still a must. Thomas Maka at Gordon who's been in all the academies and U20s can't throw to save himself but I guess that's not a pre requisite for Hookers in Australia. I'd love to go after someone like Pollard and bring him to the Tahs like they did with Hooper all those years ago.

Wilson

Phil Kearns (64)
Theo Fourie is a solid pickup as a 3rd string hooker, he has probably been underutilised at the Rebels as the 4th string hooker. Should be coming into his own over the next couple of years too. Excited to see how he does.

I think they've made the right call going with Grant's experience too, Gordon, Wilson and Grant makes a solid set and it gives them a bit more time to bring on the younger guys coming through behind Wilson without exposing them too much too early.

def agree with you guys there.

Grant is a great pick up, he wont be playing much super but will be there if needed and some experience in pro set up. he will still light up the shute shield too so a win win.

Theo is an interesting one, I think there is a better option in shute if im honest, although maka has been released ive been told so he wont be an option for them. Pollard would def be a good get but would be silly to leave brumbies now.

If I was tahs id be bringing pollard and luke reimer back to sydney from brumbies.

From a Waratahs perspective it's not a terrible thing to let him play a season of 7s in 2024 and then look at the lay of the land again in 2025.
Agreed. With the Olympics next year that is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Plenty of time to come back and make it in the 15's format.

WHO do we have that can cover 15 besides Jorgensen for next year?

Nawaqanitawase and Harrison at this point. Harry Wilson at a stretch but I'd say that would only be bench coverage not a likely starter there.

We are over supplied in the centres with Foketi, Perese, Walton and Tuipulotu and surely there's a chance that Henry O'Donnell figures somewhere after a strong showing in the under 20s.

With Marolt and Vonappen getting the shove this year, wasn't it just last year that Williams and Douglas got the shove? Bockenham the year before that?

That's a lot of NSW pathways best and brightest locks getting a big 0 on their report cards after a year in the big leagues.

4 centres is standard and Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) is NOT a fb.

Harrison and Wilson are the backups for now.

Don't forget - they weren't allowed to replace Beale so he is holding a spot.

I agree you need four centres on your roster but our backups are good quality players. If there was an injury on the wing I think you're likely to see Perese move to the wing and Walton start at centre.

I agree that fullback isn't Nawaqanitawase's best position by a long shot. He's more likely to play there than a bunch of other backups in terms of putting the best team on the park though.

Pollard needs a bit of work on his throw as well.

I think he’s at the point now where he needs to be playing every week, otherwise he’s going to quickly become a 24-25yr old with the in game experience that other countries hookers have by the age of 21 and learning lessons during the game that he shouldn’t be learning during his peak physical years.

Yeah. Billy can't throw straight, is as slow as a wet week, has no foot work and is passive in contact. He is also too old. Better leave him where he is and not clutter up the roster to cause the latest SS run of the miller to miss out on a spot.

No, he has great footwork and contact and is only pretty young. It’s a shame he has only been allowed to play for 6 games for the brumbies in 4 years. But his throw does need work.

I'd have Wilson over Gordon, but Gordon's super rugby form has been great recently so i wouldn't mind him starting.
