Waratahs 2020

Lack of depth at fly-half today is a byproduct of the foreigners filling those positions in recent years.. Look back at the 2018 season you had Peter Grant at 10 for the Western Force, Hawera at 10 for the Brumbies,

The problem with Hawera was that he wasn't good enough, not so much that he was from overseas. He would have been eligible for Australia this year I think if he was still around.

I'm still not thrilled that guys like Kata and Douglas are here when we've let guys like Whetton and Dargaville go in the past.

Whetton has always showed promise and this will probably be his breakout year, and you just know he would have had a great chance to develop a partnership with Swain over the last few years at club and NRC level.

Dargaville was so clearly a brilliant talent, I was thrilled when we got him, now he's the starting fullback for the Sunwolves.

Not saying I don't like Douglas or Kata, but we had Aussie eligible options...

Those players aren't exactly like for like though are they. I will say I was happy to see Dargaville get picked up by the Sunwoles, I agree he's got talent. Whetton wasn't exactly a local boy though. Was he even eligible for AU (when did he come over?)

Whetton not a local, but his grandfather was constantly pushing him to play for Australia and he was (and still is) eligible. He was a Brumby in 2014, played in six games and won five of them. Guys like Laurie Fisher and Peter Ryan would have been fantastic for his development.

I don’t think the Tahs are a real organisation for many reasons, the fans are up there as one of them. Which is a shame because it should be a terrific union. I have hope that this new breed of players will shift the mire.

Lol nah. If there was any local talent available they would have easily displaced Hawera or Grant. There wasn't.

Has a dig at the Tahs, calling them not a true club for signing an overseas capped player.
Is happy with Reds signing an overseas capped player and praises the Reds as a true club.

And the Tahs fans are the ones with a problem?

Bobby is partial to the odd troll- ignore him.

Bringing it back to the thread title I'm really looking forward to the trial game. It will be interesting to see how the Tah's on the rebuild go against Thorn's multi year project.

Yeah the comparisons are interesting. It feels like the Waratahs are where the Reds were two seasons ago. The difference is that I think the younger Waratahs players are more ready than Thorns players were.

There are a number of middle tier units who have been there awhile that need to step up, lead and demonstrate consistency or they will be superceded

Robinson
Fitzpatrick
Dempsey
Hanigan
Holloway
Gordon
Hunt

and
Simmons
Beale
Hooper

Was going to agree but then you noted Hooper as middle tier. Lost all credibility at that point.

I thought I put him with the captains\leaders and in the tier above

Sorry my bad.

Probably still annoyed about the reporting about Hooper earning his spot. Of course Rennie is going to say that but in truth we all know he is already the first one picked.

Hopefully not. I believe Rennie is the type to pick another 7 over him if form demands it.

Cronyism still alive amongst the Sydney rugby mafia.

Isn't Dave supposed to drag us out of this shit malaise that we've been in for the last 5 years?
