Well given how ordinary Tahs squad is in terms of super star talent it would not be a bad thing if signed lattrel and Leone at this point. Both I suspect highly unlikely - particularly lattrel but given the scarcity of super stars in tahs squad I would say it justifies recruiting players like this as not exactly range of super stars knocking at their door to play for them

Would it be a good thing though.

Latrell is a great player when he is on. Absolutely first class. But he is off more than on and his attitude appears to be causing him issues.

In terms of what Nakawara brings as a player I can hardly think of a better fit. But given the manner of his recent sackings you’d do your due diligence on him too (although I would be very interested what his side of the story is).

In a squad with a lot of young blokes you’d want to know these two guys would bring the right attitude with them.

IF the coaching staff can be convinced they would then go nuts.

Latrell is 21 and plays like a 21yr old. He’s an absolute gun and would be a great rugby player if he applied himself with potential to be the worlds best in his position. Talent like that doesn’t come around often. I’d love to see him cross-codes but it would have to be only if he was serious about it and not just looking for the publicity. Two years in France and then returning to Aus a year or two out from the WC would be what I’d say to him.

If he changed codes, going to France to chase the dollars would be the most likely outcome. He's 22 now so plenty of time to learn the game before the next World Cup. I'd be happy for him to play for us though

Like you say ‘if he applied himself’. That’s my word of caution.

I get the thrust of your point - he may we’ll get more consistent as he gets older. Plenty have before. But there are also
plenty who looked to be world beaters on the rise that get derailed for all manner of reason.

His level of potential is by now means a guarantee he’ll even achieve half of it - and Trent Robinson is a pretty savvy bloke.

Just taking a look over Tahs squad - gees pretty ordinary and not much star quality. Thank goodness for Sunwolves as otherwise be raging favourites for wooden spoon in oz conference. Sorry this is probably one of worse Tahs squads in years. Appreciate rebuilding so if bring youth through maybe worth the pain but just not sure got enough youth talent either with x factor.

It is the disease of the 4 year RWC cycle and providing a load of test players, you lose a shed load of test experience the year of.

Just be thankful we have a load of kids coming through that provide some quality and hope

The loss of Kepu and Latu is huge, and the front row will be weakened, but it comes down to who is off contract and available, and I don't see any Australian THPs on the market. If the NRC is a guide, Robbo will play LHP and HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes) THP with Faulkner a bench/backup option

I would have thought the opposite, the year Robinson broke through in Super Rugby was playing at THP and did really well.

He seemed to be bumped the LHP once Kepu got back on his feet

I would have though so too FP, but I did notice that in the NRC Robbo played 1 and HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes) 3, which I assume was a Waratahs based call.

Blues coming to town in Rd 2 so please postpone any upwards trajectory until after then.

Blues always full of beans in the opening 2 rounds before reality sets in and they then proceed to fall from the top of the tree, hitting every single branch on the way down. So come on, just give us something, have a heart, let the little guy have his moment in the sun, then we'll be on our abject way

As long as their contracts reflected their relative situations i dont see why you wouldnt sign either.

That said Roosters seemed to offer a bucketload more cash than the Tahs could offer and he knocked them back.

Sounds like Carlton! Off-season specialists.

+1. We keep on hearing how shallow our depth is at THP in Oz rugby, and when a promising youngster comes along he gets shunted to LHP. Don't forget in Robbo's first year Paddy Ryan moved to LHP and performed surprisingly well.

There again, I know fuck all about the dark arts of the front row.

I have a suspicion only about six people truly know anything about scrums.

I’m not one of them but I reckon that blue haired bloke you’ve got who likes snitzels at the Lord Dudley goes pretty good...

Johnson-Holmes played Oz Schools and under 20s at THP before being shunted to LHP because of Kepu and Ryan. I suppose the coaches will make their decision based on how they fare at pre season
