He's got a good CV, let’s see if it translates into improving the Tahs. Whilst he's a Kiwi and some people have strong views about appointing an Aussie coach (Campo etc..), I feel that the variety of experience in different countries/systems will mean some adaptability. I remember reading this Reddit post where someone was wondering whatever happened to him and postulating that he was a big loss to NZ rugby - https://www.reddit.com/r/rugbyunion/comments/852o5q/whatever_happened_to_rob_penney/

Interesting that Scott Roberston learn't his ropes under him.

I'm firmly in the Campo ahem camp. A pity they couldn't find a NSWelshman for the gig.

I reckon Campo would have been a disaster. He has very little coaching experience and little of it recent.

I think he'd have been a good option as backs/attack coach but I don't think he was interested in doing just that.

He would have gone in to tackle the head coach role, got side stepped or missed altogether...….:p

As per Melbourne Rebels thread (Thanks for the news Oztimmay) Faulkner to the Tahs

Would have kept more an eye on him in the NRC If I thought he was coming north.

Swinton enjoying himself. Hopefully he continues to grow in the game

Sounds like Sydney (NRC) arn't expecting to make the final 4 if they are letting Swinton rest - though to be fair he's probably played a fair amount of footy this year.

Apologies I wasn't clear, I wasn't advocating Campo himself, just echoing his preference for a local.

I hope in the meantime a local will be the stand out candidate.

As an aside I don't know if I've mentioned it before but I remember when the QRU selected Eddie Jones for the QLD job.

One of the selection panel told me he was by far the best candidate in terms of the criteria that they had set. Look how that turned out.

You could be the best coach in the world with the best credentials that doesn't mean you are the best fit for the job.

Nor does being born in a certain location also mean you are best for the role. I think the current RWC clearly shows you take the best coach no matter where they are from (just look at all the headcoaches - a lot of Australians & Kiwi's). If you can find a local one equally good, then that's an added bonus. Maybe someone like Cron will round out his experience in Japan and bounce back into a Aussie coaching role again in the future (though I guess you can argue if he is Kiwi or Aussie).

Tahs actually seem to have the most depth at 10 of all the franchises

You guys have Mason, Harrison and Beale in pinch.

But your back 3 stocks essentially consist of Clarke and Beale.

I don't think even Clarke is officially confirmed yet is he? It would be nice to get some real gas out on those wings.
