I just don’t see Hanigan as being an adequate lock.....

Shirley you’d leave him at 6 and then work out your best options when Dempsey returns?
I don't know, Hanigan has been truly awful since June. I'd sooner see Holloway starting at 6 and Stainforth at lock.

Honestly, I think being in the Wallaby's squad has hurt Hanigan's development immeasurably. The best thing for him would have been playing NRC.

So, this is where all the trolling is gonna settle in, eh? Ironically in the team thread which has had the least chat. OK. ;)
My job is done.

This was actually my intention. Also how do you guys have the least talk?!

Nah, it's heaps notable! Make the Reds better and Waratahs worse with one signing.

Can Reds fans PLEASE cease fucking over long term servants who deserve better than they have been treated? Fuck me, next you'll be dissing LFG. Leave the shite behaviour to Ballymore HQ.

Simmons has (always) one of the highest work rates of any forward in the country. We can argue over the effectiveness and mongrel (and it IS an argument) but not his work ethic, during a shite time in Reds history.

Waratahs needed locks, they got probably the best one on their list, certainly the most experienced. And I've a sneaking suspicion that Simmo may be looking forward to playing the Reds this year.

Excellent buy for the 'tahs, well done. And really good to see such a long term Wallaby treated with respect from at least one club in Aus, even if it's not his hometown. Respect and plaudits to NSW.

Simmons would start at virtually any club in the world. Not a complete player, but nobody is.

Is he going to dominate a test for you tomorrow? No, but he'll do just fine packing a scrum and hitting some breakdowns at super level, and he'll dominate the lineout.

I actually find this really interesting -- comparing the treatment / reactions to the Simmons and Cooper situations.

I haven't seen anyone come out and defend Cooper to the same extent, yet Simmons was just not resigned. Quade is being paid to play club rugby.

The forums of this site are where there can be detailed discussion on a wide range of topics, where widely divergent views can be aired and discussed. The front page blogs are where visitors first come to get match previews and reports and keep up to date. More people read the blog than come to the forums.

This site is strengthened by the quality and diversity of our blog writers and arguably the Waratah bloggers have a long history of interesting and accurate reporting. This year, for a variety of reasons, we have lost a number of our most experienced writers and the irreplaceable Lee Grant, who organised those writers over the season.

So we are looking for people who have the Waratahs as their team and who have sufficient writing skills to put together 600+ words - writing blog articles for Waratah home games and overseas away games. We are looking to rebuild our team of writers so we can provide the same great coverage that we have in years past.

If you would like to join the Waratah writers team or would like to recommend someone can you please PM me.

[For the uninitiated, you send a PM by clicking on "inbox" at the top right of the page, click "start a conversation", put "Hawko" in the "participants", write a few words in the dialogue box and press "start a conversation".]

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I disagree, Hanigan has the workrate and engine, he just needs to improve his individual efforts. He will be much better for his time with the Wobs and I expect him to be the starting 6 for the Tahs. Holloway will again struggle to make the side as he does lack the required workrate You can teach\coach better efforts, you can't teach workrate

Off thread. But you haven't been paying attention if you think that. Fortunately the lack of grace from some Reds fans has settled irtn Quade. Simmons deserves a little dignity.

Dean Mumm copped the same stuff, Simmons will play a role and put in a shift, sure up the lineout and push in the scrum. I can understand why the Reds are punting on their young locks, they have enough experience in the front row and backrow but Simmons will do a job for the Tahs

NSW WARATAHS SIGN SCHOOLBOYS CAPTAIN

31 January 2018

Australian Schoolboys captain Will Harrison is the latest in a group of promising young players to commit to playing rugby in New South Wales.

In one of the most significant recruitments for the franchise, the 18-year-old today confirmed that he has signed a three-year contract with the NSW Waratahs, making him the youngest player to join the team.

NSW Rugby Elite Youth Development Manager Pat McCutcheon said Harrison is a player with immense potential who has been in the team’s sights for a while.

“Will has incredible rugby talent and is an all-round good young man, and someone who has shown tremendous professionalism in everything that he does. Our goal is to provide these young players with the environment in which they can develop their game and go on to play for the Waratahs and Australia,” McCutcheon said.

“He is very mature for his age and this has come through in his work ethic on the field and his character off the field.

Harrison credits NSW’s strong development programme for his decision to continue his young career in the State.

“Since joining the youth development programme, what I’ve learnt in this time has played a major role in my decision to commit to the NSW Waratahs,’ Harrison said.

“The programme is about more than just rugby development. We are introduced to an overall and holistic approach to the game, and that is important for us young players to see and realise that it takes more than just catching, passing and kicking a footy ball to be a professional player,” he said.

Harrison started playing rugby at Marcellin College in Randwick, where Wallabies Coach Michael Cheika went to school. A bad leg injury cut short his season with the Randwick Colts in early 2017 but following an extensive rehabilitation programme, he returned to his club side and went on to captain Australia in the Schoolboys Tri Series against New Zealand and Fiji later the same year.

He has since had an opportunity to train with the NSW Waratahs squad.

“Training with the Waratahs was surreal having players around me who I would like to play like when I am older. The integration of the Generation Blue programme sends a strong message to us young players that if you put in the hard work, the local talent is getting noticed.”

I agree, I think it’s serves both teams. Reds are right to back the young blokes, and Tahs needed a solid lock for 2018. That’s no slight on Simmons, just the reality of professional sport.

Will Harrison has signed with the Tahs for 3 years.
