There are so many Poms in Sydney the test will draw a decent crowd even if it isn't a decider. Witness the third test against Wales in 2012, 42,900 turned up for a dead rubber on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Which is probably about what we'll draw this year. Depending on which website you look at the capacity at the SFS is 45,500 or 46,000.

Wouldn't it have been nice to have a brand new 55,000 seat stadium there for the future though?:)

Dunno if I'd support spending $600m odd for an extra 10,000 seats which'll be used only a coupla times a year. If $200m can fix the service problems at the SFS while adding a few thousand on the ends and a plastic roof, or whatever, I'd strongly support that.

I've been going to the SFS since it opened and I must say it's one of the better viewing stadiums going around. It's everything else which is a problem, and they're, surely, relatively easily fixable.

I agree with much of that, although I suspect that the renovation/upgrade will end up costing almost as much in the end as a knock-down/re-build would have.

It needs 2 levels all the way around, like similar stadia everywhere else in the world - no matter which option is picked the capacity will end-up almost the same. I just think that spectator and player facilities under the stands will probably where the costs will be saved.

I too have been going there since it opened - I was even at the first game played there (St George v Easts). Before that, I used to go to matches at the old Sydney Sports Ground; rugby grand finals etc. A knock-down/rebuild was the best option then, and IMO would have been the best in this case.

Unfortunately Roger Davis was played off a break by the Roosters and Sydney FC.

Reminds me of when Manly Council tried to GIVE Graham Reserve to Manly Rugby in the 1960s to build a rectangular ground - and Manly refused to leave Manly Oval. Graham Reserve now has two soccer fields.

Shit you guys must have plenty of money down there.

Suncorp cost $280 million in 2001.

Gabba cost $128 million in later 90s.

Just that in Queensland everyone realises that it's for the common good and people support it.

15 years later we're still having petty parochial squabbles down here, so that any result is some sort of compromise.

Sydney's a world city.

How does the refrain go about Australia's cities as women?

Sydney's a gorgeous blonde. She thinks she's the most beautiful girl in the world, and carries herself accordingly.
Perth's her little sister. Not quite as gorgeous, but daddy's loaded so she doesn't care.
Melbourne's an arts chick, relaxed and intelligent.
Hobart's an innocent country girl, just in from the bush.
Canberra's lovely and smart, but so intensely boring that nobody realises.
Brisbane used to be frumpy and fat, but now she looks okay.
Darwin's easy to get in and out of.
Gold Coast is a bottle-blonde crack whore.

Just so we're comparing apples with apples:

Tonight Waratahs v Brumbies at Alliance - 25,000

2010 Waratahs v Brumbies at ANZ - 40,000

http://www.austadiums.com/sport/event.php?eventid=10125

This should expose once and for all the fallacy on which the Davis Doctrine is founded. "No one will go to watch the Waratahs at anywhere else but Moore Park"

I guess if one repeats the big lie often enough, most people will believe it - but the evidence in this case is clear. People in Sydney's west will go to Waratah matches and people from the north and east will still go there as well - even if, shock, horror the games don't take place at Moore Park.

OK. Select one set of data from 2010 and one from 2016 - and quod erat demonstrandum and all that.

Pressed as to whether he was saying a move to Western Sydney “would spell disaster” for the Waratahs, Davis said: “Yep. That would be my expectation. Given where our fans are based, where our loyalty lies, where our training facilities are, where our office facilities are, it would be a bridge too far.”

“To play in an 80,000-seat stadium, when our average crowd is 20-25,000; the very reason we signed at Allianz is it is a fit-for-purpose stadium.”

“The renovated stadium at Parramatta, which I think is an appropriate development because it does need upgrading, it will only seat 30,000. So if we have a 35,000 crowd, we can’t play there"

So ANZ is too big and Parramatta is too small, despite Parramatta capacity exceeding the average Waratahs crowd.

Sure different years, but remember the basis of the debate and it was this comment below from Davis not wanting to play in Western Sydney.

“Most of our fan support doesn’t really want to go out there, for whatever reason

It's just a very flawed way to use data to cherry pick 2 numbers and call it proof of anything.

Yes, but we're never going to have two games of equal value played in the same season at both venues, there's always going to be variables and the data somewhat subjective.

I think there's more evidence to support the argument that the Waratahs can draw a crowd in the West compared to the argument the the Waratahs wouldn't draw a crowd.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to unlimited statistics.

However, it is proof that people will watch the Waratahs outside of Moore Park isn't it?

Wasn't the whole premise of the Davis rant that no one would watch the Waratahs if they had to leave Moore Park?

When it was pointed out that the Waratahs regularly drew good crowds to their previous matches at ANZ, you said it inter alia, that it was wrong to compare games v Brumbies and Reds at ANZ to other games at Alliance.

Well we now have a direct comparison and it provides some evidence that the position of Davis is in fact incorrect. A Brumbies game at each venue. I never said it was definitive proof by the way - you put that spin on it.

Assuming that people find Wikipedia an appropriate source for such matters, I can provide the statistics below:

2014 Waratahs v Brumbies ANZ - 29,000

2013 Waratahs v Brumbies ANZ - 21,817
Waratahs v Reds ANZ - 26,037

2012 Waratahs v Reds ANZ - 32,071

2011 Waratahs v Reds ANZ - 33,846
Waratahs v Brumbies ANZ - 28,276

So no one will go to watch the Waratahs anywhere else but Moore Park eh Mr Davis?
