Maybe not the position they needed most but that's never a big deal with the Japanese signing, at the end of the day you take what you can get. You'd be crazy not to take advantage of the policy and not expand your squad.

I wonder if there's some sort of incentive or cost sharing this season for teams signing Japanese players given their impending entry to Super Rugby?

The Rebels adding a Japanese prop they probably didn't need and the Tahs doing the same with a centre seems to indicate that maybe the contract is being assisted by Japan.

I imagine they're pretty keen for the opportunity and given it doesn't conflict with the Japanese season they may not be overly concerned (within reason) about the money.

The cash they earn in Japan probably means they're just happy for the experience. How many Japanese tight forwards are playing outside Japan?

It must be something like that because Jim Stewart deserves a spot in the centres before a foreign development player

I have now been told that none of the group of train-on players have been contracted.

Previously I was of the understanding that Dempsey, Faleali'i and Clunies-Ross had been offered contracts but apparently that isn't the case.

That would mean that Jim Stewart is still in the same situation as these guys and could be offered a contract as the season progresses as could the guys above.

Apparently they are all being paid something to train.

Does anyone have match times for the U20's / Gen Blue games on Saturday. Am extremely keen to seem how the likes of Holloway, Betham, et al perform after non selection in week 1.

Obviously some pretty poor performances individually across the park as well as a unit from the tahs (excluding set piece). I probably could have been accused on harping on it a bit last year but can someone please make a case for Dave Dennis being a)skipper and b) in the match day 22. He was pedestrian at best last year pre knee reco and I can only see it getting worse post surgery this year (today a strong indicator). I thought chapman was busy and would be the likely replacement.
